Video Game Music - Constructive Criticism Wanted

No matter how harsh, before I release my album, I would like some constructive criticism on what I should change, fix, get rid of all together etc.

Most tracks can be listned to at the bottom link, this is not a plug due to the fact that this CD has not gone on sale as of yet, like I said, I would like some help from fellow producers.

This is my 5th album and I think it's very well made.

http://www.centralarc.com/purchase.html

I try to do different stuff on each track, or at least take stuff in a different direction. This is how I record:

1) I come up with an idea and write a song.
2) I record the song.
3) I delete the entire thing and take bits and pieces of it and start over again.

I keep doing that until I come up with something completely different than what I started with. I think it's fun doing stuff this way, because I end up with a song that's 100% not what I originally intended to make, and since I do this stuff for fun, I like the outcome! Alot of my friends have said I am a very talented musician though.

Thanks

This neither offends me or exites me, but I can see where you are coming from with regards to Video game music. It's very atmospheric and probably would work well with a game.

As for wanting to listen to it or buy a CD with it, I find it just a tad too dark for my tastes.

Good compositions though.

Cheers
Nem

I agree that you are very talented. Wow, this stuff is perfectly arranged and composed. The beats are simply kicking hard and the atmosphere is spooky. I did not really like the female singing on some of the tracks, but that might just be my personal taste.

I've always tried to compose music like this but my stuff always ends up too 4/4 and too "clubby". I'll take a closer listen and maybe buy if I can. Your stuff is very inspiring

I think I live in "4-4 clubby" land. This is kind of out there for me. So please read what I write with a grain of salt since it may just be that your style is out of my familiar zone of genres.

It definitely feels like you're inside a cyberpunk nightmare with all this machinery continually moving around you. The album title corresponds perfectly to the songs. It seems like this is something that would grow on me over time.

Part of what's limiting my enthusiasm is the sparseness of the drums at least in the beginning of the songs. I have attention deficit issues. When I'm driving or listening to music while I work if I don't hear a beat for too long, I instinctively fast-forward to the next track.

I'm really liking "Elongation." The intro and build-up in that was right-on. I was thinking at first this needs to be dnb and then the beat dropped and it's kind of in that direction but it resists being club-dnb.

In "Trifecta" for example what if the beat came in while the samples were going like in "Blameless"? "Blameless" I think works a little better than "Trifecta" in terms of the relationship between the opening samples and the entrance of the beat.

That's all I have time to look at right now. Like I said, take me with a grain of salt.

Peace,
Agent Starchild
