Mini Review: Danny Tenaglia in San Diego (On Broadway) 06/15/07
I drove down to San Diego early that weekend to see DT as I was seeing Bloc Party Saturday night. None of my friends could make it out to the show, so I went alone.
DT never fails to entertain; he is really quite awesome.
I've never been to On Broadway; I normally see shows in SD @ 4th & B.
I agree with my friends; this place is a total meat market. The boozers come out from 10-2, and once they leave at 3am, the real partying begins.
The "main" dance area was small; both stage left & right had go-go dancer boxes (not my cup of tea for various reasons , and the right side was all bottle service. There was a grated wall in the back which separated the dance floor from the main bar. There was a lot of shoving and pushing and drinking and not-so-niceness on the dance floor from 10-2. I mostly stayed away from the floor during that time as I couldn't really find a place to dance without being attacked by someone.
What was a minor bonus was there was a downstairs area (I only hit the bathrooms there), but another room was playing hip-hop, so that actually took a lot of people out from the top floor; the top floor wasn't so crowded that you couldn't move (re: avalon some nights).
I didn't get in until 11:30 (I had to check into the W, change, get to the club, and go to will call to get my ticket); but once I got my ticket, I got right in.
What DT didn't like (which I could completely understand) was that the lights came on at 1:45 and they stopped serving until 2:30; they took all drinks, and no more drinks until everything was gone and all the tabs were closed, etc.. The lights went down at 2:10ish but it was another 20ish minutes before they started serving water/energy drinks again. Yes, it sucked, but it's San Diego (and 6am!), so it didn't bother me. I know others we're pissed as they gave no notice and they took everyone's drinks away at 1:45.
From 2:30-5:45a, it was great; nonstop dancing and I stayed until the end (he ended 15min early).
The only IDs I had were:
~2:45a Danny Tenaglia - DIbiza 2007 (Norm's Bringin the Drums Dub)
~4:15a Depeche Mode - I Feel Loved (Danny Tenaglia's Labor of Love Remix)
5:45a Celeda - Be Yourself (last song)
DT came out during the second-to-last song and danced during the whole song with 40 or so of us that were remaining.
He was cracking up at the number of people that were going to see him in LA the next day.
I met some cool SD people as well.
If you ever get a chance to see him; you must go.
I have some pics somewhere, I'll try and find them.
