Best 2.1 PC speakers?

What are the best 2.1 PC speakers? I'm looking for a quality set of speakers with tight bass and a full mid/high range... I also want to play it loud. I've seen Klipsch, Logitech, Altec Lansing, and Creative speakers. Which set would you recommend? Would you recommend studio monitors or a stereo amp setup instead of conventional PC speakers?

IMO ideally you want to get an amp, with a proper set of large music speakers, and not movie speakers.

But, if you went with the computer speaker route, Klipsch have the best sound quality by far.

I have heard the top end systems from each maker, Klipsch, Logitech, and Creative, and the Klipsch are a clear step above. They are usually louder and clearer.

My room mate's Klipsch (8 years old) set blows my new Logitech set out of the water.

Yes, I have the old Logitech Z680 5.1 speakers for my home theater setup. Even though it's great for movies, the satellites don't throw out enough lower mid range or upper highs because they only use one driver. The end result isn't even close to full sound.

Klipsch speakers have horn tweeters, so I'm thinking the highs will sound better. Another problem with my Logitechs is that the bass is just muddy and overpowering. The subwoofer grille also has an annoying rattling problem at certain frequencies that I can't seem to fix.

I've had great results with my Logitech Z2300 speakers.

Can you explain? Does your sub rattle at certain frequencies? Does the midrange sound hollow?

The bass is absolutely booming on my system. I will admit to having to turn it down a smidge to hear the mid range clearly, but I use them for general listening as well as DJ monitors and I think they're great for the money. That being said, my neighbor in the frat house back in college had the older version of the 2.1 Klipsch and those things rocked as well.

Unless you're going to be producing, I don't see a need for studio monitors. Their flat response won't be very appealing for listening to music for enjoyment instead of for precision. Besides my studio monitors, I have a (relatively) cheap set of Logitech's and I'm perfectly happy with them, although I like a good quality set of studio or DJ headphones as well.

All I know is, when I had to buy a new set of 2.1's a few years ago, I kept reading all the reviews that said the Logitech's were the overall best in their category. I'm definitely not disappointed.
