question about krk monitors

been reading around and I hear a lot about the KRK RP-8 monitors (and also see a few posted in the post your pics thread).. I was wondering how much worse would maybe an RP-5 be? The price is significantly different and I am new at this and am probably not going to be leaving the bedroom with any of this any time soon... So is the sound significantly worse, or just not as loud?

I have the RP5s because that was all I could afford at the time.

They are fine for bedroom use (very loud), but if you can afford it I'd recommend getting a sub to go with them, because the 5" cone doesn't create the best bass.

That said, I don't have a sub and I get along ok.

I can't make a definitive comment on the difference between the 5" and the 8" inch, but the eights would undoubtedly give better bass, though the clarity of the music itself should be the same.

the rp8s give decent enough bass for a small party (20-30 people) but you'd still need a separate sub for anything larger

Buy the 8s if you can stand saving up for a bit longer. Bigger the driver = more low range.

I saw my local guitar center on Comm Ave in Boston was giving away a free RP10 sub with the purchase of 2 KRK RP5s. Try to check that out if u can...

Actually the rp5 are the best for the rp line IMO. With the 6 and 8s the bass begins to get very muddled, the 5" woofer suites that line best imo. Your best bet is to buy the rp5s cheap and eventually move onto something much better if you decide to.

best bet: buy rp8s + crossover + rp10s (or does the sub have a built in crossover?)

the rp5's and rp10 is good if you want something to just sound good but if you are using them while recording its the wrong direction. Your mixes are going to have way to much bass and wont sound good on any system except for yours. I recomend just going with something bigger than a 5 if you think your going to have problems with the low end sound. Take the money you were going to spend on the sub and just buy better monitors off the batt. Maybe hr624's or some Events

my mixer has two sets of outs, so would that cause any problem if i have one of the outs hooked up to the rp5's and the other outs hooked up to my soundcard for recording? i mean i'm just assuming, but i don't think that could affect the recording in any way?

and another question, obviously you would connect the left output to one monitor and the other output to the 2nd monitor... but where would you connect the sub if i were to get one?

don't tell me i would have to buy yet even more stuff
