What am I going to do with my life?

I've failed two subjects (out of 4) this semester. It's fucked. I was a distinction average student. I'm in an honour society. This isn't meant to happen, I'm so lost.

I'm doing Commerce (Accounting) and Management of IT. Computers are my bitch, but like... accounting, wtf? Accounting was supposed to be my safety net for when I'm 40 and no one in IT wants to employ me anymore... but the management of IT component of my degree has almost nothing to do with IT.

I pretty much hate accounting, I don't know if I can put myself through it anymore. How does one decide what to do with ones life?

just go with what life throws at you. that's what i say. just gotta suck it up and realize that you are in control w/ your life (even if it may not seem like it).

i've never failed any courses, but i failed a few exams my freshmen year....in my basic calculus courses (like, if you fail these, you can't advance to further classes to get into meteorology). i thought i was screwed. but i just buckeld down, tried to get better, and i did.

Like 40% of people fail accounting at university their first time. Over here anyway.

Just keep trying, you'll get there.

Yeah, the courses have a 50% failure rate, but still...

This problem isn't so much about failing, it's more about why - should I be doing this?

Anyone with IT industry experience would be good! Is an MIT/Commerce degree relevant?

Don't panic.

Change your major if you need to.

Drop out if you need to.

Bug a psychiatrist for ADHD medications if you need to.

But, mostly, don't worry, the only way to get anywhere in life is to try lots and fail just as much along the way. Everything is a learning experience.

Do what you feel you must do. Sounds stupid, but that's the best thing I've learnt about life.

Why did you choose IT and Accounting? Were you the one who came up with this idea of "accounting being a safety net"?

You know, as I approached my senior year in high school, I became really clueless. All the stuff I wanted to study was supposed to be useless, and my parents had convinced me that studying foreign affairs or network engineering was the only way to go. Those were really difficult courses to enter and, because it wasn't really my will, I never did (and I've always been a very good student).

Then, one day I decided I'd study languages at university and picked "Japanese Language" because it sounded interesting. Without much effort, I then got the highest entrance grade ever in the history of the course (or so it seems), which was ironically really close to the grade I needed to enter Foreign Affairs. I was now doing my thing.

On the one hand, it sucks because I lost about 3 years and I'm still an undergraduate while many friends of mine are now going for their doctor's degree. On the other hand, even though I'm not exactly where I'd like to be, at least I now spend my nights studying and enjoying every damn minute of it, and I've got a really fun job
