Question Question about JBL EON G2's and its competitors. -Im interested in buying...

Hi there

Im in love with these speakers, JBL EON G2 15" Prepowered, they seem perfect! The only problem is that they are a little to much for my pocket. My question is, is there a model of another brand that is just as good (or maybe better) and cheaper?

i fully endorse the eons

if you're looking for options

mackie makes a good powered speaker as well, the model number escapes me, shouldn't be too hard to locate

the mackies have great sound, the only downside to the mackies is they overheat

if you plan on using them for extended periods of time at high volume i would recommend the eons

they take a shit kicking and keep on ticking, built very tough

i have a pair of the G1's myself and love them, they fill a large room with sound very nicely, they're nice and punchy and as long as you're not an idiot, you shouldn't run into problems of overheating or overdriving

remember, in this industry, you definitely get what you pay for when buying hardware

i am not a big fan of the bass response on the eon's i have used them and they seem to distort rather quickly... i like the mackies much much more....although overheating can be a problem...

Check out the Tapco Thump TH-15A (Tapco is a Mackie division).

These have 2 amplifiers like the expensive speakers but the amps are less powerful, 200 watts total. Might be good for occasional use at smaller places, less cost and weight.

Haven't heard them myself yet, maybe GC will stock them eventually.

are you sure, i have mine hooked up right now and they sound great

i've never had a problem with distortion as well

make sure your levels are set proper

pushing too hard on your mixer will send a distorted signal

celestion 'road' range are a reasonable comptetor of the eons and might be chaeper. eons are good but personally i think you should opt for wooden cabinets from martin audio or turbosound. and get a seperate amp. you will get a lot better sound at about the same price. eons are underpowered and lack the quality a wooden cabinet gives imo.

The Eons are very solid. The resale value is good too. I recommend them

well im a very minimal dj i usually do house parties only... if i were to decide on the EON's, should i go with the regular ones or the G2's?

Those TAPCO ones are appealing as well.

If it's for house parties and if you're on a budget go for the regular ones. If this is a long term investment G2s.

So everyone would take the G2s over the SRM450s?
