Hi all , i currently use Nexus and vanguard vst's but i was wondering is there any vst's out there that are really good for base lines, as i cnat really get the base lines i want with nexus or vanguard.

im trying to make trance hard house but the base lines im never hapy with the sound of em.

Most of the times I use Novation V-Station for my basslines, I love it!
Albino is also fairly nice for crispy basslines!

EDIT:
And for those sidechain-progg basslines I use my JP-8000.

Massive is cool for basses, but you can use anything at all, just buy a decent synth and you should be set. So not nexus (rompler) and not vanguard (too metallic).

Just a quick question for V-station users (and other synths I suppose):

Do you use the arpeggiation for rolling basslines (i.e. 1 x bar length note) or manually program in each note?

Also, I find a lot of the presets (even when tweaked a load or FX off) for the V-station sound very muddy in the mix. Anyone else have this?

I find Novation bass station is basic, but useful for "bread and butter" bass sounds.

I use z3ta for pretty much everything.
I would rather just use the one synth and learn it really well instead of having a heap and digging for patches.
That is until I gain abit more skill.
But I think that it is far too easy to get lost amongst synths in the search for a good sound.

this is true.. anything will work.. layering is key to the bass (well to most things actually)I know this seems like a shameless plug but if u check out my remix for the track clicky on my myspace page (www.myspace.com/jrmedina) i made the bass for that track just with the stock fruityloops plugin ts-404 i think is its name. Of course there is compression and EQ applied as well!

I use my Virus for basslines. You can get some insanely fat bass sounds out of it.

hmmm novation bass station is shit. i tried it before and there was no way for me to get a decent sound. i've used v-station for basslines. it's pretty good, but i haven't explored all nooks and crannies. i'm sure it does wonders though. AlphaDave could you share some bass sounds you've gotten out of v-station?
