Att: People who live in Chicago

1. What do you call a person from Chicago? Chicagan? Chicagoean? Chicagonese? Pretty sure it's the first one.

2. Ok, here's my real question:

A group of friends just got back from the US where they bought a limo in New York, drove it to LA then sold it for only $1000 less instead of hiring a car. On their way, they stopped in Chicago among other places.

The story goes that one night they went to see Hernan Cattaneo play, and he started at midnight or thereabouts. By three am, the whole club was rocking, and all of a sudden the music stopped, the lights were turned on, and everybody told to leave.

Out the front, my friends asked fifty or more people where they could go next, only to be told repeatedly that nothing was open after 3am, and that they should just go home.

Is this bullshit? Were they on really bad drugs? Were people lying to them, or does the city really, truly, effectively shut down at 3am???

Also, did any of you meet my stupid friends? There were eight outgoing Aussie blokes, at least three or four of them massive EDM fans. They were driving around in a limo so I guess they were fairly conspicuous...

As if you have friends. And if you did, as if they'd have a limo.

3am?

Chicago does not "shut down" at 3am. Last time I partied there, over thanksgiving weekend, i walked out a club as the sun was rising of that big blue wonderful lake.

3am, pfft, you've got some lameass friends, man

Chicago bar time is 2AM Monday through Thursday, 4AM on Friday, and 5AM on Saturday.

And if you're clever, the night certainly doesn't have to stop then.

And a person from Chicago is called a "person from Chicago."

Only a fool would think that a city responsible for establishing the house-techno staple in the world, would force people to stop partying at 3am.

The scientist cannot capture the whole cosmos in thought. In his mind he makes a kind of microcosm, which we see as an analogue of the cosmos. In this way we try to get a feeling for the whole. The artist, I suppose, gets a feeling for the whole some other way.”
