OK so I just paid $100 to upgrade Ableton from 5 to 6 and get what?

All I can tell is that it has slightly different window styles and a MIDI grid that assumes I only want to play 16th notes my whole song. Every time I open a new clip, it has this lovely option called Fixed Grid already selected for my convenience. Nothing in the options that I can see will change the default to be like what it was before which made sense. When you zoom the stupid magnifying glass in, it should assume that you want to hold notes shorter.

Does anyone else who got duped into upgrading Ableton know how to undo this god-awful default? I always play notes that are shorter than sixteenth notes so I'm basically going to have to press Ctrl 5 every time I open a new clip to unselect an option that was selected for me.

It's such a simple, stupid thing and I know I'm going to get made fun of for complaining about it but it does get to be irritating when you have to do something counterintuitive over and over again.

i dont know how to fix your problem im not that familiar with ableton but i know that in version 6 you have the freeze function and the flatten function which is a very usefull thing and also i think you get some new fx.

yes but flatenning usually fucks up the timing :-/

you can get around it by turning off the warping on the flattened track, but the problem is that you loose the "elasticity" of the audio which is a think I like...

well according ot microsoft word you wrote 198 words in this. that means you could of ctrl + 5 , 99 different midi clips instead of typing this.

sonar had a feature for grid paramters but who really cares, turn the grid off and call it a day... most people work with multiple grides because instruments get quanitized in different varities.

live 6 also brought dual core support, movie import abilities and a much more functional library manager than i've seen in any daw.

agent right click on the midi grid and change it to the narrowest setting.. i like that the most out of all of the different note interval settings
