Yeah I know, what a title for a thread lol.

Anyway, yesterday in my 1st hour, (curent events) we were discussing this topic. My first hour is a debate/argue class where we talk about Controversial topics.

Well today (saturday) is our school's Jr/Sr Prom. The student councel was Considering handing out condoms at the prom, to insure if anybody does have sex they at least use a condom. Well the point of this is the student councel ran into a problem w/ the administration. they said that "handing out condoms doesn't insure people will have safe sex, but will provoke more people to have sex." I dont get this statement, my arguemnet yesterday was just because they have a condom doesn't automatically change someone's mind about sex, to therefor lead them to have sex.

Anyway I just wanted you all to hear this and tell me what you think about the administration's choice, and if the student councel was in the wrong...or had a good idea.

hadning out condoms at a prom would be like saying "here have a condom and enjoy your sex....oh...btw...my office is open too *wink*"

If there was no food available at the prom do you think people would bring their own food to eat? No. But if there is food availible it will be eaten.

There will be more sex if condoms are handed out. But still, I think you should try to let them be handed out anyway!!

I think my school administration/school board/state
is more conserned about Alcohol, getting drunk & driving....

But i don't think it's a bad idea,
The Student council should be able to do such a thing without any problems.... I'm not saying that it's an effective approach tho.

See there is my point...its not like that.

There is no *wink* *wink* no teachers offices open, the student councel is made up of peers who run the councel. They were just wondering if this would be a good idea. Its not like they are going to be standing by the door handing out condoms one by one, "here you go enjoy your sex" "here you go, enjoy your sex." etc.

Its like, 'they are there IF you need them.' I could understand if it was beer or something and say 'we dont want you drinking unless its here.' dumb stuff like that, but you like everyone else knows prom (most) people make it a point to get some that night. Its just a given, so the SC said lets at least make sure they have safe sex. thats all they were doing was just looking out for the others in my opinion. But lets see what everybody else has to say about this...

I totally agree with the handing out the (ndjcnsdnv) issue whether it be condoms by a school or clean needles to heroin addicts by the government. You cant stop all sex but you can help preven unwanted pregnancies. You cant stop all drug use buy you can prevent AIDS. When you are in a position to help someone else at almost no cost to yourself, why not?? It ultimately benefits everyone.. ie less babies, less aids.

I think that handing out condoms during a prom is a great idea. It might encourage sex to a certain degree, but I think that just because someone gets a free condom doesn't mean that they will go off and have sex with someone that they're not with in the first place - just because of the condom. That's a crazy idea. But if a couple is like "hey, here's a condom, let's go after the prom," then what the hell is wrong with that? Better safe than sorry - no one wants undesired pregnancies and STD's.

Of course, you have to watch out for the drunk ones that are quite willing to entertain a stranger - having a condom there would remove any remaining sense - "what the hell, he's protected" thinks the drunk mind.

Your administrative council is nuts. Reminds me of those govermental types who are trying to shut down raves because "everyone goes for the drugs."

That was the same understnading by the SC. Just another reason i dont see what the big problem was. Tonight i'll find out if they were able to go through w/ their plan. if so the congrats for them.

could go both ways....

it is a controversial topic. i dont think that people will automatically want to have sex more if they are supplied with condoms, but again, it might help them make the decision to much easier, knowing they have a condom....so there you have it. my opinion....

cant really pick sides as i dont really know anything more about the case.....wont they bring condoms in their pockets and pass them out to people there if they so badly want to pass them out...

there's ways around almost every rule.
