Prior to Vista I connected to a 500gig Mybook (WD) using a .bat file

the batch file had

xcopy "C:\name\Documents" "N:\Documents" /S /E /V /D /Q /Y

Simple and effective.

Now Vista does it and much faster.

I use one of those USB external hard drives too. Also I copy stuff to DVD+R, they hold 4.5 GB, using Nero.

I just drag & drop my important files & folders, no actual backup software .

Also, someone stole my computer before so I made my place more secure.

I ahve 2 external hard drives which I save everything to. My laptop got stolen some months back and I lost most of my tunes and such. I was pretty choked. So now I have the two externals and I've been thinking of making DVD backup of both on a regular basis, however I don't know how long that would take to do. There's about 200 GB worth of stuff on my one HD and nearly 100 on the other.

i am super paranoid about backing up. i have external hard drives, to which i backup around once every month. i also burn DVD copies of static stuff like photos, mp3s, old project files, documents etc.

and i use SYNCBACK (freeware version) to run the backups.

Norton Ghost is supposed to be pretty good for automatic backups. I don't use it personally though.
