How I came by the URL is a pretty good trick, you need a tool that will capture HTTP information being passed off and to any given website. This allows you to capture the locations from which data is being transfered in order to be streamed by a flash player. Or any player really, I've been able to capture.divx movies off of tv-links.co.uk with a tool like this.
The one I use is this:
http://jdgiotta.googlepages.com/guidedoghomepage
There are many like it, and there's a version of this exact tool for IE, feel free to Google around for it.
When you run the tool, keep an eye on the filesize of data being requested, that will be your clue that you've found the URL to the media a streaming player looks for. This is especially handy in downloading media off of pandora.com/myspace/facebook/youtube/tv-links.co.uk for example. The files are downloaded with random names from there, just at .mp3 to the end and it plays!
Be creative and you can find plenty of uses for this extension.

there's only one decent way you can have a somewhat secured application work the way you want. you'll need to develop a custom web service which sits on a server and only allows connections to make requests through some security feature like a certificate or encrypted key.
the directory of music will have to sit on the local machine off of any public access spot and the web service will have to handle the transfer. that or connect the user to a location on another machine. this will put an 'invisible wall' between the requested media to the stream player.
this was a vague description, but if you're aware of what i'm talking about then you'll be able to do it.
