A bunch of rich kids?

How the h*ll can you guys afford DJing? Where do you get the money from???

I'm personally broke because I got my Gemini XL-500 II decks, Numark Bluedog mixer (a piece of crap), Technics headphones and 8 records.

Now that I can finally pull off something what I'd call a decent mix, I can't afford to buy any new records!!!

People are making comments such as "dude, you outta save up for Techies and a decent mixer", but all I'm asking is how?!

Don't have a job, and WON'T have a job until next summer. Should I just wait more than a year before I can buy records again??? Should I start dealing drugs or sumptin??? I can't even go see S&D's gig because of this...

Somebody should write a book about how hard it is to be a beginning (vinyl-)dj!

well, it certainly does help if you do have money to buy equipment and vinyl with. you don't have to be rich, you just need a decent job. rich parents doesn't hurt either!

I would have told you to buy cd decks because that way you can burn cds without having to buy all the music up front. Once you dl an mp3, you can mix with it for a while, then save up to buy the ones you want to mix with professionally...or if you never go professional, then it really doesn't matter in my opinion. That way you can get good eq AND good music that you know you will use.

I was lucky. I got more than enough money from a government loan for school. SO i used some of it for dj stuff... But if you can get a steady part time job, that you can set aside $50 or so a week for a couple of records, then it really isn't all that bad. Just cut back on some other luxuries.

But true, getting the intial 1-2 grand for equipment is hard... I just got lucky.

if you are doing school, you can work part time after school or over the weekend and like quddha said, set aside a good amount of cash after every paycheck, lay off the unnecessary spending and you would be surprised how quickly you can get your shit. no work = no money = no fun. i believe most of us do have to work for our stuff. we're not all a bunch of silverspoon sucking kids ya know.

I really hate the REAL rich kids... they fucken get as much money for the best equipment and think they are the best.. most of the time they can't even mix and don't have a clue what they are doing....

they just piss me off

Dealing drugs would certainly help yeah

Anyway, every starting dj goes thru a difficult time, and even the already "big" dj's have it difficult aswell, cause you always want more and more.Just keep the faith, believe in yourself and don't give up 2 easy.
