[house, electro-house, prog] DJ Jon Caserta - Off My Rocker (June 2007 Promo mix)

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've had a mix. I mixed this in early June. It's house, electro house, and even a little progressive trance to end off. It's a fun mix, I enjoy it.

I'll go ahead and copy and paste the description from my website - yes I enjoy writing books about my mixes.

This CD is meant to emulate my favorite type of club set. This is the tail end of the "warm-up" sets. This is when you've got a couple stragglers out on the dance floor, but for the most part at the beginning of the set it's mostly people coming in the door, getting drinks, hanging out, etc. They don't want to hear frantic "BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM SCREEEECH BOOM" noises. They also don't want something that's gonna put you to sleep. It's that no-man's land in between that so many dj's don't do too well - where you want the people to feel the music, but not be overwhelmed by it. Usually most people are seen nodding their heads, listening but not totally concentrating. Then, by a few tracks in, the set has built to the point where you've got quite a few people on the dance floor. Not going crazy, but getting into it nonetheless. By a couple more tracks, the dance-floor's packed, and ready for the headlining DJ. At this point I'll go back down a couple notches, let them off kinda easy but not enough to have them get out of the mood, and let the headliner have their way with the fully greased and ready crowd.

Anyway, more specifically....
The mix starts off with Troyden - Learn to love. This is an awesome jazzy get your head nodding type track, with a great spoken word vocal. Next it gets a bit more upbeat with a vocal funky house track from Gaelle that just recently got this great remix from Grant Nelson. After this track, the mix takes a darker turn, and gets a bit more proggy with a D-nox and Beckers track with a cut up, ethereal, almost haunting vocal. Next, it's a bit of a different track - everyone's heard the Eric Prydz remix of Pink Floyd's "Proper Education", but this one is a little bit more low-key and much more interesting. If you listen carefully you hear a lot of subtle changes throughout the track that give it a very unique character. Next a bouncy prog track about how dance is dead...followed again by a further turn towards the dark side with "Colombian Soul". This track is sick....it has a awesome techy bassline, and has a haunting melody that I just can't get enough of. This general idea is continued with a great electro-house remix of a classic track from the early 2000's that just was released by...chicken lips! With a name like that, how can you go wrong? By the time Chicken Lips are in the mix, we're firmly into lots of people on the dancefloor territory. The mix crescendos with a few more electro-house tracks that are particularly appealing. As the mix draws to a close, you are entitled to hear the Gareth Emery remix of "Formentera What" by Albert Vorne - an epic progressive trance track with a bit of hardness to it so it doesn't feel out of place after "Dirty Cash", but transitions into melodic bliss. After you're finished with your melodic blissfulness, we've got the final track, which I've been really into for a long time - the Supermodels from Paris remix of Jussi Polet - Positive. It's got this great, well, positive, vocal, and a great danceable almost trance, almost prog, almost electro feel.

beginning is a little bit slow for me, but nice progression during mix, last half sounds nice and has more punch.

Thanks man, appreciate the feedback!

The mix is meant to emulate the transition from warm-up set to early peak hour, so that's why it's a bit "slow" in the beginning.
