Evolve Festival: Canada's Largest Green Music Festival celebrates it 8th year!

The countdown is on for the 8th annual Evolve Music and Awareness Festival, happening in the picturesque countryside on the outskirts of Antigonish, Nova Scotia. This three-day live and electronic music festival runs through the long weekend of August 3rd, 4th and 5th.

Evolve is an independent festival that operates with no corporate sponsorship. It is entirely dedicated to sustainable environmental stewardship and is the largest festival of its kind in Canada. This year the organizers are expecting over 3000 visitors, a significant percentage of which will travel from outside the province to enjoy three days of great music from over 40 different acts on three stages.




2007's outstanding selection of musicians will ensure a broad spectrum of musical flavours will please many palates, from rock to jazz to electronica to bluegrass, Evolve endeavors to present the best musical performances of the summer including Toronto's 9 piece ensemble King Sunshine, Colorado's one-man-jam-band Keller Williams, the indie sounds of Toronto's Do Make Say Think, the rhythmic profanities of Holy F*&k, energetic live electronica of Philadelphia's Lotus, San Francisco's Magic Pipe guru That One Guy, Jamaican dub vibes of Toronto's The Irie Band, west-coast wonders Mother Mother, Alberta's The Grassroot Deviation plus the electric-jazz sounds of Victoria's Noises from the Toolshed and Vancouver's Hey Ocean!

Once the sun sets the DJs will emerge, and the festival will host such turntable-related talents as Chicago House innovator DJ Heather, Seattle drum 'n bass drummer/producer KJ Sawka, Toronto's breaks mainstays Robb G & The Phat Conductor plus California's multi-talented beatboxer Kid Beyond.



And Evolve just wouldn't be Evolve without a big chunk of Atlantic Canada talent such as Halifax's melancholy rockers Wintersleep, hip-hopper producer/MC Classified, up and coming stars Carmen Townsend and the Shakey Deals, the amusement park rock n roll ride that is Cape Breton's Slowcoaster, Fredericton's quirky indie rockers Grand Theft Bus, honky-tonkers The Divorcees, vaudeville rockers Tom Fun Orchestra, Fredricton's eclectic quintet The Fussy Part, Halifax's progressive pop quartet Down With the Butterfly, Newfoundland's Hey Rosetta!, plus delicious combos known as Olympic Symphonium, Chillin Room and Red Barn.

Atlantic Canadian DJs Sonny D, Mizz Maxine, Burnto, NTB, Johnny Sleep Dep, Roo, DVD, Soundsyster, Steve the Viking, 420Jenny, Harmsworth, Nurse, Lee Fraser, Dale Manette, Tommy Knuckles, Dr.T, Brian Talbot and Criminal Intent will be there to make sure the vibe is right



Besides offering amazing music, Evolve is committed to being one of Canada's greenest events by utilizing renewable energy sources, reducing waste and environmental impact and most significantly providing a forum to network and learn more about social and environmental issues. Evolve strives to set a standard for sustainable festivals by using recycled paper and vegetable-based inks for all printed materials, biodegradable plates and utensils for food vending, organic cotton and hemp t-shirts and more.

The three-day Evolve Festival has general camping as well as a quiet/family camping area. There will be full service facilities including running water, portable washrooms, clean drinking water, and shower/wash stations. There is also a kids play zone with organized activities and music for the youngsters and, as usual, a vendors' area will offer a diverse range of scrumptious food to keep people energized. The vendors' area also features many unique crafts and wearable garments for sale.
