Pocket-size: Canon SD800IS is the way to go.

SLR: Canon Rebel XTi (Compact Flash though)

you'd want to read some canon, panasonic, nikon, olympus reviews at dpreview.com

i'd suggest canon S3IS (S5IS is out but its not a leap change) or Panasonic DMC-L1 etc.

Olympus has 28mm camera with 18x optical zoom, it all depends on your budget, being a friend my job was to confuse.

you need to define budget and also size preferences ( large slr type, or fit in the pocket type deal )

S3IS is nice, but it takes AA batteries which, to me, are a pain in the a$$. Lithium Ion all the way!

+1

I have both cameras obviously for different things and think they are both great. The reason I love the SD800IS is because it has a wider angle lens 28 vs 35 so when you take pics of yourself at a club let's say you get more of the objects in it. It definitely makes a huge difference. The image stabilization helps too..both of these features are hard to find on other cameras.

I'm getting old

I recently got the Canon SD900 Ti (Ti stands for Titanium). The camera is amazing looking and takes amazing pictures. It can do movies in 640x480@30FPS and even 1024x768@15FPS. It uses the new SDHC SD memory which can be up to 6 times faster than the old SD memory if you get a class 6 SDHC card which is what I have. I will say though if I could go back, I would probably have bought the Candon SD800IS (IS stands for Image Stabalization), instead after reading up on reviews. Pick some models you are interested in and compare specs.
