News choppers collide

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/07/27/he...rash/index.html

(CNN) -- A police chase through the streets of downtown Phoenix turned into a midair tragedy Friday afternoon when two television news helicopters covering the action collided and crashed to the ground in smoke and flame, killing all four people on board.

The police chief said the suspect will likely face criminal charges for the deaths in the helicopter crash.

"I think he will be held responsible for any of the deaths from this tragedy," Harris said.

How is it his fault, yes he was breaking the law but seriously come on, people love looking for someone to blame.

If I am driving along and I see a woman get her handbag stolen and I watch the guy run off and I plow into oncoming traffic and total my car... Is that his fault for distracting me and me being a negligent fuck?

There is some logic to the argument - imagine if it was one of the police cars chasing the guy, and the police car crashed due to the high speed. It could be argued that the guy had responsibility, as the policemen didn't die strictly because of his own actions, but also because he was doing his duty to the society, where he was placed in a very dangerous situation by the suspect.

Now, it can be argued that the news people were also doing their duty to the society (people have the right to be informed, etc)... but it's definitely a stretch.

Since I hate the media overblown sensationalistic bullshit, and the way they cover these persecutions making them look badass and cool to the TV viewers, I say give the darwin award.

why is this bullshit? its probally some dumbass negro who robbed a store, stole a car and got chased by the cops..

he deserves to die for being a piece of shit and a waste of life anyways, we dont need to be wasting tax money keeping these idiots alive in jail, kill him and do society justice.

it makes no sense to charge him with the deaths of the victims in the 2 choppers, but still. hes a waste of life and should be executed or life in jail for causing a police chase.

Looks like there is now precedent that you can point out to the court that may get him to pay for your damages.
