Big Ears GCB006 Steve Mill – U Cube | OUT NOW !!!

Steve Mill – U Cube

1. Original Mix
2. Sam Ball Remix
3. Randall Jones Remix
4. Artego Remix
5. Human Adams Remix

Release date: 22th of October (beatport excl. pre-release)
Label: Groovecollection Black 006

Release Info:

Recently the Greek with a British name Steve Mill stormed onto the scene with some remarkable tracks. His “Lia” track made it onto Hernan Cattaneo’s Renaissance Sequential vol. 2 and his remix of Djuma Soundsystem – Les Djinns got support from none other than John Digweed as well as Nick Warren. Now he’s ready with his new bomb called “U Cube” which has already been featured in Tiësto’s Club Life radio show and the Sam Ball remix has been a favourite of Hernan Cattaneo for the last couple of weeks as he played it in almost every live-set.

The original version of “U Cube” is a real catchy, dark and atmospheric builder in the techy style that’s so popular today. Haunting hints of strings create a spooky feel while a somewhat melodic hook creates a catchy drift. “U Cube” is just a real clever piece of techy music. Something loads of dj’s will appreciate.

The Sam Ball remix is even techier than the original version and could well fit in a typical John Digweed style set. From the first minute a louder and harder kick adds extra spiceyness and a groovy fat bastard of a bassline is sure to make the hips wiggle. The build in this track is amazing and as the song progresses the crowd’s reaction should meet the intention Sam Ball had with his version.

Randall Jones’ mix is quite different from the first two versions and starts off with a breakbeat. Soon the melodic hook comes along and you’re reminded easily of the original. Just after two minutes the 4/4 kicks in and at first a more stripped down and later back up version appears. The emphasis is on the bassline which never stops grumbling and grooving. Mr. Jones remade the track in a very minimalistic (never being minimal though) way.

Very different from the original is the Artego remix. The Russian half of international producers duo Blendbrank reworked the tune in a very housy way. 80’s like strings and synths will produce a very happy atmosphere on the dancefloor and the people’s faces. Only a few hints remind us of the original. And a wink to Daft Punk’s “Robot Rock” hidden in the middle is sure to make this track a favourite of the housier dj’s.

Last up is the Human Adams remix. This dutchie turns “U Cube” in a very interesting way into something more freaky, spacey and minimal like. Reverbs, echoes and what not more are fx’ing their way through your speakers. Extra chord progressions in the break add that typical Human Adams sound and make this a great addition to the remix package.

DJ Support:

Add2Basket: The artego remix is just amazing! Exactly the sound I am chasing!
Stian Klo: loving the original and sam ball remix - top stuff
Thee-o: really liking the Sam Ball remix
Tom Morgan: Sam Ball's remix is the pick of the bunch for me, like what he's doing just now.
Matt Rowan: Love the Sam Ball mix. Fantastic bouncy bassline and a cool groove.
Kevin Shiu: Lot's of good name on the remixes,I might play them all.Thank you very much.
Deep C: Crowd Rocker! 10/10
Adam Abouraya: great elements, and solid production!
Flash Brothers: We love the Artego mix, very cool uplifting 80's vibe as we like. in our bag! Also on the more fresh progressive side of things the Human Adams mix is very good too!
Redanka: I think the Artego mix wins out here because it dares to be different! Elements of 80's synth pop, disco and old skool hip hop in there - in fact there's all kinds of things going on in that mix. It definitely has something over the others. 7/10 from me.

Love this one!! Heard Hernan play it out and it tore the place apart!!

Orig and Sam Ball Mixes for me are the best, but the Artego Remix is perfect for a housey Luke Fair-kinda set also!
