hey. i'm coming to birmingham from august 1 to september 8th. haven't really looked into what to do there. interested in both parties and just sightseeing. i'll be spending a lot of days by myself, so wouldn't mind doing touristy stuff.

any ideas?

custard factory

Aug 18th, Sander Kleinenberg @ The Custard Factory. Try and get to an Osmosis night too, They are on the last Friday of every month at Rooty Frooty's which is part of the Custard Factory. It's a proper Techno night, nothing cheesy and nothing minimal.

If you like the "Ed Banger" sound then go to Resurrection which is on the first and third friday of every month and Panic! which is every second and fourth saturday of the month. They are both primarily rock nights with small back rooms for "Electro/ Nu Rave". There are quite a few posers, but, don't mind them they'll gurn themselves to sleep.

Resurrection is at Subway City which is built into some Railway bridge arches. The back room is dark, small and has the lowest ceiling I have ever seen in a club.

Panic! is at the sanctuary which is in Digbeth just before the Custard Factory.

Joey Beltram is in town on August 25th. I'm working the night before at Air, which is Ferry Corsten playing for Godskitchen, So the following night should be messy!

Its also a shame as the week after you leave you miss the double whammy of Drop Beats Not Bombs which will be hosted at the reopened Que Club.

Stay away from Broad Street and The Arcadian! I cannot emphasise this enough.

Obviously there is more to do than that. Birmingham has been having its own revival recently. Its been a nice time and it would be hard to explain everything in one post.

If you visit the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery there should be atleast one Exhibition on. Go to the edwardian tea room inside the museum too. You get a quality cup of tea in there.

Also if your around the bull ring, go to the rag market. Loads of bargains and buy a Pork & Stuffing bap too.

birmingham is only 20mins from where i live. never found anything fun to do there tho, only code back in the day. (the old gods kitchen)

Is this strictly true!?.. You have to be kdding. Broad street is rammed full of bars, busy, not really my cup of tea, was when I was 16....
Arcadian is definitly worth a visit before clubs - Indi, Arca and Soba are all decent bars, if a little pricey.
Summer row at the end of broad street is also fairly popular.
Some smaller decent clubs are Dragoneye on Broad street, Hidden and Bambu (debatable imo....) at the Arcadian. And Moneypennys use to be decent at HQ but it has moved to 52's so can't comment..

After club parties seem to be popular at the moment. MUD being one of these (can't remember the venue..)

If your into trance, without a doubt go to gods on the 24th to see Ferry. I'm booking my ticket this week, always a great night.

I generally don't like Birmingham.. Maybe because its the closest big city near me, and Ive been there to many times. I favour Leeds, Liverpool etc.

If going as a group of you be careful not to walk into bars as a 6 etc.. Arcadian especially can be fussy about this. Go as a 2, preferably with a girl so u look like a couple.

Things to do in the day.
Come and visit my sunny, historical hometown of Lichfield..
Drayton manor and Alton towers aren't to far away for quality theme parks.
