Terje Bakke - Love Should Always Be Good EP
Norwegian producer and dj Terje Bakke recently released a very personal EP on the Icelandic based record label Arctic Wave Records called “Love should always be good”.
It is the fifth release for this 2006 establish record label. Previous releases include the likes of Hernan Cattanéo, Funk Harmony Park, Introvert, Micah and many others. Up to now, Introvert’s release of “Things left Unsaid” was probably received the best. It got a terrific review on progressive-sounds.com and was supported by John Digweed, Nick Warren, Steve Lawler, Chris Lake, Andy Moor & Hernan Cattanéo.
Terje Bakke gained of course world fame when he won the prestigious Globaldjbroadcast Bedroom DJ Competition in 2004 but in the meanwhile he also stunned the world several times with his producing skills. Previous releases of him can be found on Electronic Elements, Lost Language, No Smoking, Feral Code, Sentient Audio Collective and many others.
For this EP he came up with four new tracks. The first track is called “Beloved Maiken” and is in fact a tribute to his former girlfriend. During a 7:35 journey Terje Bakke takes us on a trip of beautiful warm and lush sounds. A very effective melody, for which this producer is known, makes the track complete.
The second track is an intro mix of “Beloved Maiken”. The track starts of beatless with the melody kicking off straightaway and which has in fact some sort of sad feeling all over it. This mix seems to build up forever without getting boring and therefore forms the perfect opener for many sets.
“About Trust” will probably be the track from this EP that attracts most djs. The combination of a subtle bassline and another haunting melody do the trick. A very remarkable fact is that this track has a BPM of only 123 – which is rather slow – and still contains so much energy.
The last track from this EP, “Autumn Butterflies”, takes a different approach. It’s also more difficult to indicate to which category of music this piece belongs to. In fact it’s more a chill out track than a progressive house piece. Therefore it will probably also playlisted by less djs. Though, this track is still a beauty. Just like the Intro Mix of “Beloved Maiken” it seems to be building up forever with a very mysterious voice that is repeating a few words over and over again.
This atmospheric EP is definitely worth a buy for every progressive house fan. Check it out today!
