I need some good universe/astronomy related books recommendations. quickly.

Amazing on amazon .ca sale is ending soon ... sorry to be a pain in the butt, but I need some book recommendations. Something very educational, a good overview on universe, galaxies, space, dark matter, black holes, etc. etc. = BUT NOT the very basics, some stuff that takes a bit of basics and makes it more comprehensive, more interesting, more wide (not just the dam planets or list of statistics) ... I already know the main stuff. Dont recommend an astronomy high school book, please ;-)

Dunno if its the right place (book recommendations thread - rarely anyone goes there), but please help me out. I need some reading material to beef up my universe knowledge. From a scientific point of view.

EDIT: If hardly anyone posts, can a mod move this to chillout forum then? At your own discretion ... but I need recommendations, dammit!

Check out "The Elegent Universe" and "A Brief History of Time" if you haven't already. Probably the two most engaging cosmology books I've come across personally.

Among the 12+ books in my shopping cart right now, I added these:

The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality - Brian Greene; Hardcover

A Briefer History of Time - Stephen Hawking; Hardcover

Nova--The Elegant Universe; DVD (may buy the book later, sounds like a tough read)

Keep 'em coming, I want to add another couple books ;-)

can someone recommend a great book about the details about the galaxies, dark matter / energy, universe expansion, black holes, etc. thats more than just a high school astronomy book? Seems like the above titles only talk about the new cutting edge info on string theory, quantum mechanics, parallel universes, and such.
