The road to attacking Iran continues to be paved

Iranian Unit to Be Labeled 'Terrorist'

U.S. Moving Against Revolutionary Guard

By Robin Wright

Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, August 15, 2007; A01

The United States has decided to designate Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, the country's 125,000-strong elite military branch, as a "specially designated global terrorist," according to U.S. officials, a move that allows Washington to target the group's business operations and finances.

.....The designation of the Revolutionary Guard will be made under Executive Order 13224, which President Bush signed two weeks after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to obstruct terrorist funding. It authorizes the United States to identify individuals, businesses, charities and extremist groups engaged in terrorist activities. The Revolutionary Guard would be the first national military branch included on the list, U.S. officials said -- a highly unusual move because it is part of a government, rather than a typical non-state terrorist organization.

Hmmm, so we just labeled the military of a government, essentially labeled the government itself a terrorist group.

So, according to our Administration's terms with AUMF, we can rightfully attack them now. Oh yeah, we can also rightfully torture the fuck out of them too if captured.

Just a long line of events down the road towards yet another war with our dear fucknut neocons at the wheel. Shall we be seeing our war-supporting Republicans enlisting soon, or do we need a draft for this war?

Somehow, I see this road ending before it even finalizes...

Sure they're laying out the blue prints and some of their points are valid (RE: munitions coming from Iran) however the American psyche is pretty much at the breaking point as it stands now with this whole affair.
I simply can't see how 'they' are going to convince otherwise.

So, let me get this straight. We're going to violate Iranian sovereignty over what?

The pretext has not been found yet. American government is busily finding ways to set up Iranians for an excuse to attack Iran. Then, they will be able to use this new law as an easy way to smash to smithereens and torture the Iranian Guard.

I mean, seriously, unless US officials had nothing better to do, why would they add a government agency to the terrorist list? What have the Iranian Guard done to the world to deserve this? How is this suppose to bring better peace and security to the region? All this does is escalates the situation even more, and less trust and more friction will only develop. The only thing makes sense is the long-term picture, the continuing pressure and isolation of Iran by US and its puppets in the region ...

Basically its a statement, that says that Iran can no longer be a friend, or someone to co-operate with in the region. They are the enemy now, the silent war has been declared. Now its only a matter of time before the Iranians are set up ...

Our military is already stretched thin in Iraq and Afghanistan. We've already spent hundreds of billions of dollars on fighting in these two countries. How could we possibly find the resources to take on yet another? Unless, of course, we decide to just carpet bomb the whole place back into the stone age.

we labeled the Iranian government terrorists officially in 1984.

we labeled the Revolutionary Guard Corps so the Treasury Dept. can specifically target it's assets since they have moved above their station.

Looks like the 2008 election could be the "do we attack Iran" election.
