when i import a midi file into cubase and attempt to play a selected preset from a softsynth the preset jumps to a different one!

it doesnt do this everytime, just with certin midi's...

ive copied the midi notes to a new sequencer window and this solves the problem sometimes...

anyone know how to sort this or maby how to remove info attacthed to the midi files which may be conflicting????

copy paste the notes to a new block.
the original block contains a preset change command which causes the vst to switch preset

Storyteller is correct - copy and past the notes (not copy the block itself) in to a new block then delete the original block.

This used to drive me nuts when I tweaked presets (especially happened with the V-station) and saved them as new preset. I would press play and it would go back to the original preset! Sometimes I found only opening a new track (not the one that had midi file in the first place) and using my copied and pasted notes in a new midi block in that solved it.

can't you just delete the "program change" command in cubase?

That's a good point, but I never figured (or bother to find out) how to.

in ableton you double-click the midi clip and you see three rolldown menus for program, bank...and something more...there must be something like that in cubase...

Hi, This is easy to fix but not entirely obvious.

If you select the list editor and just filter out all commands other than 'program change commands'. Once you do this you can delete the program change command(s) that is causing this.

Ill be home soon and I know that the filter pane is usually hidden behind a toggle switch so i can throw up a short tut on how to do this if need be.

ive tried it both ways, copying the actual notes and the block but in some midis this doesnt solve it!

Okay. Heres to my kind advice not being totally ignored!

In Cubase

1, Select the midi part
2, Midi > Open List Editor (From Toolbar)
3, On the Main toolbar switch the 'Show Filter View' on by pressing the toggle button once

This is the third button from the top left just under edit and to the right of 'acoustic feedback'.

4, Uncheck everything but 'Program Change' in the filterbar the displays

5, Delete the offending program change
