so i want to get a good digital camera .......

Here are a few of the things i'm looking for......

- compact, fairly small.
- takes GREAT videos.
- good battery life.
- obviously quality photos are important, but more click n shoot styles.
- price range is $500-$750

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Among Sony's, Canon's and HP's, I find Canon's camera (specifically the A80, which I bought years ago) had the most features and took videos with incredibly clear audio.

It was clunky and used 4 AA batteries...but then again, I did buy it in 04. I'm sure they've gotten smaller and more efficient since then.

Thanks for the suggestions......

And yeah, videos are KEY with this... i can't justify buying a camcorder, but i'd like to be able to capture some good moments (specifically in a club). Audio clarity is tres importante as well.

pretty much all cameras will have 640x480 at 30fps. no getting around it. and it will always sound like crap in a club environment because of the mic and the bass... no way of really getting around that.

I dunno - i've seen several different videos from various cameras, and there are drastic differences in both audio and video quality.

from personal experience i would say stay away from HP... but in the price range you're talking about it could be different.

true. video quality is will just be determined by the speed of the imaging processor and how quickly it compensates its exposure... so the lasers and stuff going off... Audio.. yea.. I've seen differences too.. but nothing which would pass the "acceptable" hurdle.. Might I add.. spending 300 on a camera versus 750 will not net you any better videos. (I'm selling cameras and camcorders at futureshop part-time while looking for a real job )

That being said.. there are tons of hard drive camcorders out there that would only be slightly out of your budget that shoot 6.1MP shots... much higher optical zoom.. compact (size of a can of campbell's soup). Now I'm assuming another 100-200 bucks wouldn't make that big of an impact anyway since you're willing to spend 750 on a compact digital camera. Audio will certainly be much better.
