[Progressive trance/320 kbps] Zodiacal Light - Predawn Visions

I produced this Progressive Trance track a while back. I remixed it recently, after refining my EQing and mixing techniques. This track has received set play from several DJs that do live online sets, and is featured on a DJ promo CD. Well, hope you like it. Any comments are welcomed.

This is a really good track. The lead really bothers me though! Sorry to say, because I think its got really good melody and arrangement, but the lead is just a little bit too.... 80s? I think it reminds me of "Jump" by Van Halen too much

Other than that, I really like it, it has a feel something like Nalin and Kane's Beachball, which was a favourite of mine... I think my favourite element is the arp sound, its just beautiful. The vocoded voice really adds something as well.

Towards the end, the vocal stabs are another nice touch, I think they give a cool feel, and the drum line is pretty cool too. The bass here is not really my style though, not really sure how I would do it better though.

Overall its a really professional piece, but in truth (and thats all I can offer you) I think the intro and outro of the song is 1st class, but the sections with the lead bother me, and maybe the bass could do with something too. I probably would have thrown in a deeper bass than the standard trance bass you have here. Its a great sound but maybe doesn't suit the song.

Keep up the good work!

This is a pretty cool track.
+
There are loads of atmospheric synth sounds in this track that I like, the pads and arps are good.
I like the vocals, especially those towards the end.
Vocoded vox are good too.
Nice sub melodies.
Good arrangement.
-
Percussion samples sound a little dated.
Main lead doesn't do the melody justice.
Bass could do with being more powerful.

I like it.

Thanks for the comments kitphillips and Mr Kre8. I produced this track well over a year ago, and I agree that some of my synth choices were not the best. I used Pro-53 for the lead polysynth, yep, the Van Halen jump sound . Pro-53 recreates that 80's synth sound, as you may know, so it's very retro. I probably will never use it in a Trance track again. The bass is weak, yep, another odd and inexperienced synth choice. I learned a lot from that track, and make a lot better synth choices these days.

I didn't want to release this track through a label, so I decided just to release it to the public. It isn't a bad tune, and I guess it can't hurt to have my artist name attached to it. It seemed worthy enough to remix and remaster. Was good practice anyway.

Yes its definately a great track, I enjoyed it Pro 53 is pretty good for trance in my experience, but I think that lead was calling for something with a bit more movement maybe. Other than that problem, I think it was a really impressive track, with a bit of a cleanup in the bass and lead department, it would definately be worth a release IMHO.

Anyway, I'll be looking forward to more songs from you

I probably won't ever get motivated to work on this track again. I'm too busy with what I'm currently working on. Mainly I was hoping to get some feedback on my mixing and mastering. An area I'm not too confident in. Since no one said anything about it, I guess I'm doing OK.

My newer tracks are way more progressive, more along the lines of what you're doing kitphillips. I don't even listen to trance much anymore, and I never really could get into the groove of producing it.
