you gotta find the right song for the right mood, something with a slow and quiet build up then an explosive climax, an example that came to mind was, AvB - Communication part 3

by playing tracks which do more for the people listening to them than provide a beat.

Lot's of clubbers I talk to might not like the music their listening to, but they find a beat or element to keep dancing to and in that way don't get bored. Your job is to give them MORE than just that one element and give them great songs which flow together creating that drama on the floor. Certain songs at the right time, leaving the kick by itself at the right time... The right a capella for the evening, that one classic you know the crowd would die for... inside jokes, secret shoutouts... All these things that you as a dj can do with your own emotions and feelings can do wonders for the floor if you are working in sync with the crowd and feeling the overall vibe.

Selection is so important.

Sure, there are technical tools which can help the selection/delivery process (beatmatching, harmonics, etc) but at the end of the day its all about the tunes.

Do you have any example sets in mind?

Whenever I hear two incompatible songs mixed, it takes me a little while to readjust the key of the next song.

The brain say, "What the neuron?" whenever it hears a strange key change.

harmonic mixing is very simple, and it is not necessary if mixing just an intro with an outro, but if dropping a new song at a breakdown or something it helps a ton.

it doesn't make a set more exciting, but it can keep the flow from being stopped by clashing keys
