Microphone help

Ok so i can't get my mic on my PC to work. I'm running XP at the moment.

I've tried two different mics in the standard mic socket and nothing registers. I've also tried two different mics in a USB 7.1 soundcard.

Headphones work fine when plugged into the usb sound card or into the standard one.

On XP audio settings it says Mic is turned on, volume is up, boost is on.

Any ideas???

Microsoft troubleshooting sucks.

For webcam? Or recording?

If for recording, you will need recording software.

I don't know shit about livechat/webcamming, but you prolly just need some drivers.

What kind of mic?

Under the sound volume control (sndvol32) recording settings, make sure you have the correct input selected for recording (I'd presume the microphone1 or 2). You can use sound recorder to test if anything is going through the microphone.

Also, if you have multiple sound cards, you have to make sure the correct one is selected for recording. In the control panel, open up 'Sounds and Audio Devices' and under the 'Audio' tab, change the default recording device to whichever one to which you have the microphone connected.

Usually when you install the 2nd device Windows will default everything to the new one, regardless if it actually has any input capability (eg. Echo IndigoDJ).
