if time permits, trains are easy, reliable, and you can purchase your tickets the day-of. like people have been suggesting, check www.bahn.de for all sorts of schedule and price infos for trains throughout europe  but shit, if you're strapped for time, a flight could be your best option! just one thing to keep in mind about flights out of frankfurt - some of the discount airlines fly out of frankfurt-hahn, NOT the main frankfurt airport youd likely fly into from the states. just keep that in mind with times and everything, and also prices (they have more info on getting to hahn on the ryanair website). id say your best bet is to keep fraknfurt out of the picture, and fly into eithr brussels or berlin, and then do either a roundtrip flight or train to the other city.
if you were to check out anywhere, i'd definitely do berlin - tons of cool sites and history to check out, good shopping, amazing people, great night life (esPECIALLY if youre into techno  ), and shit, it's cheap! definitely one of the coolest spots in europe. as for places in belgium, if you want somewhere not to crazy and to just chill out, maybe check out bruges! really pretty, people call it the venice of belgium, lots of nice canals, really scenic and relaxed place. there's also some really cool hostels there, and of course tons of places to enjoy some nice belgian beer

Help: From US to Germany
. I am looking to go to Belgium for I <3 Techno (10 Nov) this year, but would like to spend a few days in Germany first. Most people tell me it's easy to travel in between neighboring countries, but I'm a bit nervous since this will be my first trip outside of the US/Canada. I would prefer to fly into Berlin, then take a train into Brussels or Ghent, but if Berlin is too far, then maybe I could fly into Frankfurt. I would like to know just how easy or difficult it is to travel in between those cities; particularly how long a train ride might be from Berlin or Frankfurt into Belgium, and how much a ticket will cost me. I am preparing to book my flights this week and would like some last minute opinions. If it will be too difficult for me to get around (especially not speaking German or French) then I may fly straight into Brussels first, then try making it into Germany from there. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!!
