because french fries are a Belgian invention. Some dumb fuck must have called it "French Fries" by accident in the course of history... People find out stupid names for logical things all the time (eg: NEOTRANCE).

Because in Belgium, they also speak French, and that's the reason why the soldiers in WWI called our fries, 'French' fries..

The 'french' in french fries doens't refer to France at all. To french is an english verb that means 'to cut in small pieces'; so small pieced potatoes.

If the French really think it refers to their country, it's because they're too imperalistic or patriotic.
