One Month till LOVEFEST! Thoughts to share =)
>> SAN FRANCISCO LOVEFEST 2007 - SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29TH
Greetings music lovers and dancers, I certainly hope this finds you enjoying your day. In the tradition of Love Parade with a month to go fast approaching, San Francisco will welcome an amazing dance experience that brings together beautiful people from everywhere! The energy and dynamics this parade and festival creates is dance music coming to life in its purest form.
As a message of peace and encouragement to promote all the wonderful aspects of electronic music and our culture, I ask those in my home city of San Francisco and surrounding areas to set aside whatever differences we have built amongst ourselves; whether it's the stereotypes we face or have set upon each other, the competition from our business mindsets, the different variations of music that seem to divide us at times and the politics. Whether it's for LoveFest weekend or from here on out we are about to welcome thousands of people into a generation of creative music talent and bright people who express their everyday lifestyles through dance and art.
It is vital, because as a growing global community we should educate and welcome those with an open heart. Whatever beat makes you dance there was a moment where it was introduced to you as well, so the awareness you have built up to the present needs to be shared with those who spark an interest in our dance culture. For many people it is a lifestyle: there are those who protect us from the dangers of a fire, some repair the everyday technologies we depend upon, others influence and educate the people of tomorrow. However we carry our lives through our occupations, dreams, academic goals or relationships, this culture embedded within us isn't something that some of us just enjoy, but very much love.
Some of you who are curious about electronic dance music and wondering about this event happening throughout the week surrounding the date of Saturday, September 29th. It's exciting for many obvious reasons. It's a parade that docks into a festival. The city of San Francisco allows us to take over its biggest and most well known street in the center of downtown and dance on it in mass through seven blocks. That's it? Well these seven blocks are city blocks and it takes about three hours from the start to where the parade docks to dance alongside all the amazing floats. The next exciting part of the whole experience continues to take place in a plaza where our court, one of our biggest museums and city library are located; not only that our city hall is center west and those in power are nice enough to let us use the political building for a vip area. This all unfolds the following five hours after the parade. There will be approximately 25 floats where we very much encourage you to dance beside them, rather than being spectators.
Now those not so obvious reasons it is exciting because to me I view it as a culture that is influenced by creativity throughout a sense of time, in a place of destination or from emotions. Similar to a history of a country and the language that is the common ground for those people, so many of us have contributed to what our dance culture has become today. If you disregard any sort of sequence or segregation that streamlines throughout the countless aspects of dance music, and see it as a whole, I believe you will simply see it more of an extraordinary phenomenon. You see these brilliant minds in Chicago gave us house, Detroit gave us techno and New York along with Europe were influenced by that and clearly innovated the culture into what it is today. For dance music to travel around the world, through time and different ethnic backgrounds sharing all these bright ideas is absolutely amazing, even more so when you see it come to life at a dance event of any kind. In relation to this parade and festival, it's exciting because something that has taken so long to be recognized in our own country becomes a unique public experience beneath the sunny sky of San Francisco.
It is essential as San Francisco locals to look out and give a warm welcoming to those visitors traveling from afar to celebrate with us in one of the greatest cities on the planet. We have a lot to offer as a city and much to share as a culture.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing those I love and those I'm about to meet in the streets of San Francisco soon, until then I hope you're staying safe and having some fun in your day.
