Question A few questions for the owners of the Virus Ti

It's finally time. I'm getting one
Unfortunately, there's no place here to try one out, so I'm kinda buying blind. I know the sound is great, but a few technical details still remain unclear:

1. As far as I know, the usb link works for only 2 stereo outputs, right? so how do I get the 3rd one in? can I use spdif? Is there another way?

The thing is..I have an E-mu 1212m soundcard which has only one analog stereo in (which I'd rather not use as it's reserved for mixer input). The card also has spdif and optical in. The optical input would work perfectly as the card's software mixer allows me to add up to 3 stereo digital in's through it and route them into cubase. And up untill recently I thought the same aplied to spdif as it's also digital (as virus has spdif out). But now I'm not so sure. It appears (correct me if I'm wrong) that spdif is a single channel interface, so to speak.

The whole point is to use the Ti plugin in cubase and have all of the virus outputs (3 stereo, as far as I know) routed (somehow) into the program using this soundcard effectively making bouncing (my worst nightmare) unnecesary most of the time. It's actually the main thing that I love about the virus, being a longtime software user. Can this be done? And how?

2. Are all effects multitimbral?

3. I've heard that the 80 voices is far from the truth. What's the average voice count? how many channels do you manage to use at the same time without loosing voices? I know there is no rule, but give some figure to work with

Thanks in advance.

1. It is possible to use the analog outputs with the USB. I'm not sure if this applies to S/PDIF as well.

2. All effects are multitimbral, yes.

3. It's hard to say how much polyphony it has, since it varies depending on what effects you use and the amount of unison used. I'd say around 48-64 average. I can use between 4-8 parts before I get note stealing. Again, it varies alot. Some patches can eat all the polyphony in just four notes!

1. the virus ti allows you to use at max 3 analog stereo outputs + 2 usb stereo outputs at the same time. the spdif output is linked to the analog stereo output 1. so if you can't use analog outputs you could use 3 stereo outputs from the virus (2 x USB + 1 x SPDIF)

the S/PDIF mirrors analog output 1... so you can't think of it as an additional output.

Ok so it's like 2 by usb + 3 analog = 5? 5 independent stereo outputs?
If this it true, and the spdif mirrors analog out 1, great. As long as the Ti plugin has the option to choose any output for any part, that is.

Varies depending on patch complexity. Especially when utilising reverb, unison, granular and formant synthesis types.

I limit myself to a maximum of 6 parts at any one time, a constraint that I've imposed for live gigs; but have still had note stealing in these circumstances.

Also; the DSP is split even/odd. So if you were using 3 complex parts on channels 1, 3, 5 and 3 simple parts on channels 2,4,6 you could still get note stealing due to the fact that you are hitting the limits of DSP1.

I'd have to count; but at a guess, I'd say about 48 voices max. I've had issues/note stealing when using only 3 parts; even when only using one.
