what does it do?

it allows you to play ole' skewl records with the big holes in the middle.

It's a small, round metal block that you put in the middle of the turntable so that records like this will play:

ah...i always used it to put the little plastic things that go over the cartidge in and hold...alright thanx mate for the explanation..def the most useless piece ever

Most useless for a DJ at least. If you're trying to play vintage records, it's an essential piece of equipment.
