New Mixer: DJM400?

As most of you may know, I played a gig a bit ago for a mate..

http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...33&forumid=8&s=

And.. it sucked. And my mixer (a Behringer DJX700) was believed to be busted sometime during the party. I'm not entirely sure why.. But the other day it started working good as new again. Even though it had been screwed for the past few days and i had not changed any settings.

The host of the party i played at didn't want to take any chances, and forked over the $$ for it, In return i let him take my mixer home so he can play around with it himself. Now iv been looking around and saving my monies up.. And I'm thinking of turning this little disaster into a positive step forward and getting a new.. better.. mixer.

djwarehouse is having a sale on in a few hours, Prices will be pretty-damn-low and im thinking of swiping up a DJM400.. Need you guys to help me though. Since i use 2x CDJs, a turntable, and Ableton.. Can i still connect all of them up? Even though i wont be able to use them all at once?

What are all your thoughts on the DJM400? Do think id be better off to keep saving?

DJM-400 is a very solid mixer for its class.
From what I remember the 400 is a two channel mixer however I'm sure you can just hook up your turntable into one of the line inputs etc.. You'll just have to toggle back and forth between which device you want to use.

Maybe someone else can give more of a technical view on this subject.

i think it has two cd(line) inputs and two phono/line (switchable) inputs, so you can connect your tts and cdjs, but not the ableton or then cdjs, one tt and ableton, or tts one cdj and ableton. i'd get something else if i were you. maybe some 3 channel mixer or a 4 channel one.

I own the 400 and yes, it's only a 2 channel mixer. Both inputs allow for LINE or PHONO connection. Only 2 output channels, both labeled as MASTER OUT so you won't have a booth output for queing in Monitors. There are no XLR or TRS outs on this mixer, Just straight RCA.

The DJM 400 is a bedroom mixer, and that's it's intended purpose through and through. If you're already working with Ableton + CDJ's + Vinyl, you may want to look at another mixer to serve you better (Possibly Xone:32).

After saying that though, the DJM 400 is a wonderful little mixer for the price. I'm very satisfied with it, for how it has been for me for the last 4 months since purchase. That being said though, I'm ready for an upgrade myself probably to an DJM 800 in the near future.

Cheers, I ended up just going with a spankin' new behringer djx700.. The 4 channels are vital to me since i really like to perfect my mixing in all areas.. Digital, Wax, CDs etc..

Also, this allowed me to go out and buy a 15" hol-ey-fucking-shit sized party speaker.. And still have enough left over to pick myself up a roadcase. Next upgrade: Xone:32 or 62

While on the topic of the DJM400, could someone explain to me the following. The 400 has 4 cd/line inputs and 2 phono inputs, yet it is only a two channel mixer. What is the point of having more inputs then channels? Sorry for the newb question. I might simply be confusing myself and the answer is right in front of me.

I guess you can plug in a lot of different sources at the same time and have the abilibty to switch thru them easily. You wont be able to mix more than two sources at the same time, but its good if you need to connect a bunch of different things.

Yeah, exactly. You can hook up 4 things at a time and flip the toggle switch on each channel to go back and forth. It's sort of a quasi 4 channel setup.

Thanks soundwerks and tranceman..that's what i thought at first too, but i thought maybe there was something i wasn't catching. So if that's the case i might get this mixer. cheap alternative to a 3+ channel mixer.

The DJM400 is cool as long as you're not planning to use it on a big sound system. It just doesn't push hard enough for more than a studio setup or a small house party, in my opinion. (It heats up to scary temperatures when you've been pumping it loud for a few hours.)

I have a DJM400 and a 909. Both are great mixers but I leave the 400 at home if I'm doing something big.

you can definitely hook up all of that stuff. There's a ground hookup in the back for the turntable. You have two channels for the the CDJs. I don't know much about abelton, but isn't that software? If thats the case, you can also hookup your computer through RCA cables.
