Question djs with laptops: which screen?

Hi,
I'm buying a new laptop but don't know which screen to get: matte or glossy?
I've never had a glossy so; What have your experiences been with glossy? Especially in dark places / playing out / bright lights around

Thanks

my laptop is glossy, i don't dj with it or anything so i can't tell you much on that (though i don't think it would be any different?) but i think it looks cleaner and sleeker than the other lcd's. i really doubt it's any different in lighting situations. only thing i can think of is i'm sure it probably has more glare than when compared to the other lcd (i'm assuming the matte somewhat muffles out the light a little more so it doesn't bounce back at you as much). that would only be an issue if you have a lightbulb literally pointing at the screen though.

it all really boils down to preference.

Doesn't really matter. 99% of the time, it's dark when you play, which is all you need to see the screen well. The only trouble with glossy is that if you have a bunch of lights behind you, you get some glare. But glossy is better eye candy.

Just about all the laptops in stores now have glossy screens but you can still order some models with anti-glare matte from Dell. The glossy screens seem to have better color which is probably better for general purposes, but the reflections might bother you after an hour. If you in a pressure-type DJ situation you want to minimize distractions so I'd probably go for matte anti-glare for that.

I've got a Toshiba with old-style 15" anti-glare screen, 1400x1050, I like this screen because it is taller than the current wide-screens so it is better for some DJ software. Also it has the PCMCIA port which is not on new laptops and works with the Echo Indigo soundcard. I'm keeping this baby and updating it, added 2GB ram and gonna put in a bigger faster hard drive next.

Working at a computer store that sells a lot of laptops there are a variety of differences.

The glossy:

-looks better because it enhances colour
-better for movies
-overall looks better to the eye.

The matte:

-better if you're going photo-editing for graphic designing, because the gloss actually changes the colour that you actually see.
-a lot less glare, so if you're DJing you don't get a glare off background lighting or even the equipment itself.

I have glossy...but can say that if you do play an open-air gig it's pretty iritating...also once I had to move all the other crap :-/ mixer and efx and lighting controller because I had reflections on the screen which were damn irritating...

btw on glossy screens you can't see shit out in the sun

I can't stand "glossy" LCDs. It just doesn't make sense.

Why the hell would you want a screen that reflects? The screen surface should be a neutral as possible.

Yes, impractical people like shiny things, so they sell better... give it a few years, after the regret factor kicks in you'll see the matte screens popular again.
