Cant believe nobody's made a thread on this yet...
Well, I just got done watching the India vs. England game and oh my god, what a wonderful game to watch.
This tournament has been extremely entertaining with a number of fantastic matches such as...
India Pakistan - TIE and India winning in the bowl-out....these bowl outs provide the same chills penalties provide in football games.
Upsets such as Zimbabwe defeating Australia and the one by Bangladesh have also been amazing.
South Africa chased a score of 206 posted by West Indies in just 20 fuckin overs...that was absolutely mind blowing. South Africa is emerging as strong favorites for this competition but they have some real big challeneges ahead with many other teams rising up to this world cup.
And today, Yuvraj Singh hit 6 sixes in an over where India posted a score of 216. England has also done extremely well to score 200 in 20 overs.
Pakistan defeated South Africa and is leading their competitive group, New Zealand under the leadership of Vettori has come up with some fantastic performances such as the game against India where they defeated India by 10 runs. Score: 190 by New Zealand and India ended up with 180. That was yet another brilliant game.
Lots more to come in this world cup...Indians take on the undefeated South Africans tomorrow, a do or die situation for India. They have to win to get a place in the semis. In the semis, we are likely to India (if they win tomorrow, otherwise NZ), Pakistan, South Africa and Australia.
Overall, this is an amazing version of the game and filled with lots of entertainment and excitement. One can easily argue that this would tremendously increase cricket's popularity and we should be seeing a lot more of these games in the future....

i never understod the great attraction of this game. it's mostly a matter of luck who wins, there's little skill involved.
alas seems that shortened attention spans mean that this is going to be more and more of the cricket available to us

I've played and watched plenty of cricket. in such a short game luck plays a huge part in how long you can keep taking big swings untli you get out.
Why are there more upsets in 20/20 than 50 over games, and in 50 over games over test matches? Over a longer period skill wins out.
batsmen are not rewarded for buiding a decent innings. Slog 15 runs in 10 balls, and get out, and you've achieved all you need to in this game.
Bowlers are not encouraged to build a plan against a batsman, to encourage him to swing at his favourite shot with a well constructed field. Giving away a few runs is often key to getting someone out, especially for a spin bowler, but when a batter is only after a few runs in a short time, a huge part of the game is lost.
I'd far rather be up all night watching the ashes from england than watching 3 games a day of this version.

OK, I thought you were talking about cricket in general.
Nevertheless, it does involve skills. Slowly, the cricketers will learn to maximize their outputs in a short span game, by optimizing certain aspects of their performance. That's quite possible. It's definitely not luck. Hell no.
