He is just learning to mix...mixing comes first before learning to create tension or make a set flow for a beginner. And he probably doesn't have a huge collection either (I didn't when I started).

I'm on minute 14 and I can already tell you that you need to practise EQ'ing more.

*EDIT* Oh, and phrase matching would help too....

Good first effort. Keep practicing & keep an eye on the levels to keep the volumes close (use gains to adjust), remember phrasing (bring the new tracks in a little earlier before the outgoing track runs out) & keep practicing the eq's. It'll start coming together without even thinking about it in no time Listen to as many sets as you can to get ideas to try out yourself

thanks guys i really appreciated your commnents.
my focus right now is on eq'ing using the gains and also timing, sometimes i drop the song too early or too late, but beatmatching is getting much better...

Downloading right now. I was in your shoes about 10 months ago and I'm still not good with creating a good flow. My EQ work is rather crappy too. It all takes a long time to master. If you have questions about phrasing, I think I can explain it pretty well, because it was a bit difficult for me to grasp. I didn't have a complete understanding of what it even means. What kind of setup are you using?

That's a nice setup. Mine is rather crappy, compared to that.

I hope this all makes sense, but here goes nothing. First off, when you are listening to the track, you will notice that at certain points, music "changes" or a new instrument is added. Every time, when a new instrument is added, it's a new phrase.

In practice, try pressing play on the 2nd deck right when the new phrase kicks in on the 1st. There are always cues that will tell you that a new phrase is about to come on (cymbal, build up, etc.). If you did it correctly, then your breakdowns, phrase changes should be lined up.

This is phrase matching in a nut shell or at least my understanding of it. I hope it all makes sense. If anybody would like to correct me or add anything, please do so. I've used the method described above and my sets are phrased correctly.
