DJ Earnings???

Quick question...

Roughly, how much would it cost to book an up & coming DJ/producer i.e. a DJ/producer that people know from maybe one/two big tunes???

It varies enormously- but thats generally how it works yes- or they charge more but sort their own flights.
Saying ' a couple of hundred' is a bit of a stab in the dark as fees vary widely.

Why arent you asking their person you are interested in booking??
Asking them or their agency/booker how much they charge would be a good start

We are still in the very early stages of getting a night up and running and are debating whether to keep it home-grown or have guest DJs over. So we are just trying to get a ball-park figure in order to work out costs. Once we have made our mind up about the structure of the night, then we can start approaching individuals but for now Im just trying to get some idea of the costs we are looking at.

I think it might be a good idea to get it up and running with local talent first and then start bringing in "bigger" names as you've established yourself. Well, that's how I would do it anyway...

I know, thats idealy how we would like to do it, but the scene in Ireland isnt very strong at the minute, especially for the music we are all trying to push - progressive, tech house & techno. Outside the obvious commercial side of things, the dance scene in Dublin is made up of mainly Electro, Funky House and Trance. There are a few places that concentrate on more progressive/techno/minimal genres but they already have the highest profile Djs/producers in this over-supplied, under-demanded Dublin market. I know a fair few nights with homegrown talent that have unfairly, gone belly up.

We will probably end up having a go at getting it up & running 1st, as you say, due to the financial risk of getting a 'big name'. But before we rule it out, we are just trying to see how expensive it would work out to get not even a big name, just someone who has had one/two big hits that people into EDM will know.

Thanks for the feedback anyway.

Yeah, but on the other hand, you need to make a good first impression. After all, you need to draw crowds away from other clubs and into yours, and having a well known DJ play a set is probably one of the best ways to do it.

Yeah, but then after that one night of the big DJ you can only book crappy local DJ's, it's not as good as an impression.

TBH unless promotion is really fucking good, even relativly big djs dont mean you pull a big crowd.

Good promotio of the night even with unknown djs brings the crowds, I know a place near me booked matt hardwick, who is pretty fucking big lets be honest. and they got like 50 people through the door.

Shit nights advertised well (usually sad though it is) with drinks offers on the flyers etc get more people in.

I remember a fairly decent and well known producer on the uk circuit got booked locally for £100 and a few drinks. And if memory serves correct mike koglin is like around £500.

Even after having read 3-4 posts in this thread I still had no idea what the title had to do with the topic at hand....I thought it read:

DJ Earrings

Oh dear, time for sleep.
