I've not got down to doing it yet, but the tentative tracklist will be something like the one below, this one will be sent to event organisers and club promoters when I'm done with it, so I would appreciate comments and suggestions badly. It's mostly progressive with a tinge of trance.
1. Miro- By Your Side (Miro's Rolled Mix)
2. Tone Depth- Rumble Fish (Original Mix)
3. Liquid State feat. Marcella Woods- Falling (Solar Stone Mix)
4. Dominica- Real Time
5. Natious- Amber (Original Mix)
6. Matt Darey feat. Marcella Woods- Beautiful (John Johnson Mix)
7. Avalanche- Progressive Pulse (Pulsar Mix)
8. Lange- Drifting Away (Original Mix)
9. Push- Tranzy State of Mind (2002 Club Mix)
10. Way Out West- Mindcircus(Original Version)
Does the order look good? What would you have done?

looks pretty good.. but yet.. order is all here-say until you actually put it together.. whenever i form a tracklist in my head, it usually doesn't flow the way i imagined it too.. i'm the type of person that needs to hear the transitions to really approve.. but seems like ur off to a good start.. whenever u accomplish this mix, make sure to let us hear it ;D

Although the songs you choose should reflect the genres you represent, it is all in the performance. I've seen DJs who play the latest and greatest records, but enter transitions at odd times. On the flip side, I have seen Djs who play older cheesier stuff but mix it in a new way.
Oh yeah, the tracklist looks good.
Have you uploaded the set?

I have to say I don't know most of those tracks, but from what I can tell it seems to start off fairly slowly/progressively and gets harder/more banging towards the end. This is *good*! You're on the right lines.
And I'd just like to say that Liquid State - Falling (Sloarstone Mix) ROCKS! One of the best tunes I've bought in ages.

normally when i spin for practice... i scratch and do hip hop, then backspin it and the trance kicks in
i usually try to create some sort of mood with trance. Like i'd start off with something calm/breaks like Hybrid - Finished Symphony or Saints & Sinners-Peace... then slowly try to make the transition to something uplifting. After uplifting, I try to hit hard trance, then after say 2 songs.. maybe slow it down to some progressive... and finish it off with uplifting... then mix into funky house and keep it funky for the next 2 hours.
that's how I want/imagine doing when i'm playin with my songs.
so rarely i ever form a tracklist on paper, but i guess it's a good indication of where you want to go with a set.
basically my suggestion is to know your vinyl well. So when you play a song enough times and you feel the vibe, you'll know what song will fit the best after that, and thereafter, etc.

nice tracklist Great Outdoors! u'll definetly need to upload it for us to hear some time. My only thought is that I prefer the Lange Sunset Dub to the original mix of Drifting Away.

I think the vocals in Drifting Away are the BEST!
But the best mix of it HAS TO BE the Beam vs. Cyrus Remix....
One of the best remixed tunes i have heard
Oops I meant for the Sunset Dub to be in instead of the Original.. my mistake.
The vocals are ok, I guess, but nothing beats the Sunset Dub. Can't wait to hear how it sounds with Tranzy State of Mind back-to-back!
Thank you guys for your kind suggestions.

Thanks El~Zapo, I think I'll need all the luck I can get.
I'm using cheap gear; just a pair of Denon DP DJ-101s and a Kam KMX-300 mixer. They're crap but should suffice for a pauper like me.

Not necessarily.
Sometimes it's good to start immediately with something bangin'.
Picture yourself in the shoes of the promoter or whoever is going to listen to your mixtape/CD. They put the tape/CD in, press Play, and will need a good first impression. If the stuff is too slow in the beginning, they may not be patient enough to listen to the end. These are busy people you know.
Personally I hate CD's that start off slow, if I listen to the first few tracks and they're too mellow I just lose my patience. And many other people are this way, too. Take this into account.
