The word Maya is resonant in many cultures. It represents the unity in diversity.



The Maya Festival is a colourful and diverse festival that is held only a few Kms from the heart of Melbourne. It is set amounst the lush surrounds of Ceres which provide the perfect backdrop for the vibrant festival atmosphere.

This year the Maya Festival will include 2 stages, a large selection of Markets, Yummy Food, African Village, Chillout and Relaxation space (with Massage, Reiki etc), free Workshops +a licenced BAR area.

We also have a music lineup that includes some of Australias best electronic Bands, Dj's, and Producers.

GANGA GIRI

Ganga Giri is one of Australia’s mot respected and successful acts live acts. They have just returned from an extensive OS tour, which included a spot at the massive Glastonbury Festival (UK). Ganga Giri mixes red natural elements with phat tribal beats and dirty funky bass lines, creating a tribal-technological deep earth dance experience. Ganga is a virtuoso on the didgeridoo and an animated performer who is always on the lookout for new sounds and new audiences. The shows are a celebration in their own right and the Maya Festival welcomes Ganga Giri for thier first show back in Australia!

SUN CONTROL SPECIES

Sun Control Species has become a standard amongst the Australian trance scene since the turn of the millenium. His unique feel and his tireless travels all across the worlds thriving scene have brought a solid reputation. Sun Control Species has headlined Rainbow Serpent 3 years running and had his music aired to over 1 million people in Scandinavia alone. He has also just realeased his long awaited album ‘Scienza Nuova’ with Iboga. NYQUIST

Aran Gallagher (Freq) and Ben Hartley (Deep Fried Dub) formed Nyquist in early 2005. The pair are currently working on their Debut full length Album. Aran brings his unique world class music production and over 15 years of music experience to the realm of his sets for Freq. Ben, trained as an audio engineer, has a strong background in breaks, electro and dub, releasing and playing live as Melbourne act Deep Fried Dub and DJ’ing throughout Australia and New Zealand in clubs and all the big festivals. GAVIN MARTIN

Gavin is one of the most respected djs in Australia having been an integral part of the scene for the last 10 years. Gavin’s music style is a blend of deep evolving progressive, techno & house sounds mixed with an earthy edge, intelligent atmospherics, & an ear for forward thinking Sonics. Recently Gavin has been working under Fulcrum and GMJ and he has a brand spankin new EP out on Open Records which is set to do great things. Gavin is a favorite of the Maya Festival having played at all our events thus far. ALGIRYTHYM

Algirythym aka Benjamin Last brings to you a set of favorite electro dance floor influences. Best known in trance for his successful project Mantrix, Ben is also known for his diverse production of world beat, electro and recently down tempo glitch music. He has also performed in world music and dub bands playing drum kit and percussion. In Algorithm, Ben uses Abelton Live to DJ and effect minimal to rockin’ electro tracks. This set bring together a collection of influences as Trentemollar, Hearthrob, Martin Landsky and Australia’s own Hook and Sling.

OBLIQUE INDUSTRIES

Oblique_industries' is a combination of organic instruments including percussion, voice, guitars, electronic synths, samplers and drum machines. His electric onstage energy sees his performances create a unique fusion of sound and visual style. His song writing ability is obvious and he continues to move into new territory recently composing the music for the closing ceremony of Earthdance. Oblique industries incorporate everything from chill beats and dub, minimal, electro, techno, breaks and progressive into his sets. DON PEYOTE

Don Peyote a.k.a Yvon Mounier, is a Melbourne based producer, composer and multi instrumentalist with a strong & original style. He has also written & produced numerous tracks for Ganga Giri albums. His music is featured in various dub, chill-out, world music, and dance compilations, as well as film and documentary soundtracks. TONY LOUCAS

With a deep-seeded obsession and passion for music, Tony Loucas is usually spinnin a progressive sound of house or psychedelic trance-infected tribal beats, either deep and twisted or in a pounding rhythmic blaze...with intelligent trance melodies, ethereal female vocals and funky psychedelic grooves. Tony is an Integral party of the Maya Project as well as Electribe's club nights and 'red-bus' stages at Rainbow serpent and Earthcore Festivals. Be sure to have your dancing feet in check...


d-REKTIONAL

Derek Shiel, is Producer, DJ and Composer, known around as d-Rektional aka d-Rek. He was formally a part of the well known Melbourne band ‘Rush Effect’. d-REKTIONAL plays different styles ranging from ambient atmospherics, downbeat basswise dub, melodic breaks, and dirty electro kaoss with a Psychedelic edge. DJC VS THE JACKYL

Jack has been heavily involved in the Melbourne music scene for a number of years. His latest Project DJC Vs The Jackyl mixes Beats, Breakz. Melody and some conscious thought. Jack is known for his energetic and diverse live sets which he now mixes up in Ableton Live. RAINBOW ARCHITECT

Rainbow Architect plays a wide variety of music spanning from chill atmospheric tracks to dancy up-tempo electronic psy-fusion mixing in elements of ambient, world /tribal, blues, jazz, funk and rock. They create Beautiful melodies, evolving rhythms, swelling and morphing soundscapes, samples and special effects to create an enchanting sound. Rainbow Architect has been playing both as a solo DJ and as a Band at Festivals like Rainbow Serpent, Akasha, Maitreya, Organic Magic, Maya Festival, and Royal Doof.

JESSCAT

Jess has been playing lush chilled and chunky progressive beats for some years now. For the last year her focus has been on funk infused tribal tunes, On the eternal hunt for the cats meow of the phattest progressive sounds. Early in 2007 her chill sets took a turn into more glitchy and melodic territory. She is also renowned for being one of the founding members of the SoulQuest collective, best known for their production of the Winter and Summer Solstice parties in Melbourne over the last couple of years.


THE RED TREE
The Red Trees are somewhat raw in their delivery... the three-piece are brimming with potential to create something interesting from the array of mismatched instruments crammed onto the stage. Plastic melodicas honk crudely over elegant looping electronics; drums shiver gracefully against other worldly vocals which create an unusual but compelling sound. www.myspace.com/theredtree



DELTA SUN

Delta Sun is the new production vehicle for the sounds of Ben from the Maya Project. Ben is a multi instrumentalist who has been creating and performing music since his early teens in a variety of genres. Ben places equal emphasis on melody and rhythm mixing in deep and driving progressive sounds with lush atmospherics and sonic manipulation. His mixes also contain elements of other genres such as Breakbeat and Electro. Delta Sun is set to expand into a full live electronic band over the next few months and will be testing out some new material at the Maya Festival!
