mastering?

One more quick question.... Should we all be getting our hopeful demo tracks professionally mastered before sending them? If so... does anyone know of reputable, quality places to get tracks professionally done?

I never did and got a couple of tracks on Itunes and beatport, if its a reallllly good label then they will sometimes master the track for you. But if the mixing is done well your tracks will sound autoprofessional . mastering is just the cherry on top

I run a mastering studio which specializes in dance music, feel free to check out my website: http://www.purefocus.ca. There is a bunch of info, some audio clips, and a useful FAQ section.

I charge per track with the cost starting at $35 CAD for mastering with online delivery. As a producer myself, I know there is often not the budget go spend $100+ to have a track mastered at a large, expensive mastering studiom, and so I set my rates within reach of smaller labels and independent producers.

I offer a guarantee whereby if you aren't happy with the outcome of the master(s) you won't be charged, however I'm proud to say this hasn't happened yet

Cheers,
Robin

Usually if a record label likes your track, they will send it to the people they use to master their releases after signing it.

Just make sure the demo is mixed down well before sending.

Hey guys, thanks for the tips! ( I actually might send a copy to get mastered, so I'll PM you in a little while and see what the difference is! As far as mixes go, I think I know of (a ) problem that I have... I have the demo of Ozone3 and I've been a/b ing my stuff with pro mixes, and I notice that the RMS spectrum is much smoother. For some reason, even though all my tracks are eqed, compressed, there are still little teeny tiny valleys and peaks (too many to use individual points of EQ to tame them). Granted, I can make my overall curve fit the 6db rule and match up w/ pro tracks, i just notice that pro tracks have much less peaks and valleys across the spectrum... I know what you are thinking, that these peaks and valleys are bigger than they are, but, I can't seem to get them down. A PVD track, for example, the rms spectrums is almost a line, barely ANY micro peaks and valleys at all... how do i tame this? Is this in the mix or mastering process? I can't even TELL right now if my well-balanced mixes are good, on account of these micro bumps. Any ideas? I'll see if I can post a screen shot of what I'm talking about...

Also, I'm not even sure what record label fits my style... I would say I'm sort of like progressive-electro at an electro speed... Who out there does this?

The best way to find out what label suits your style is to go out and do research. Just check out download sites like beatport and go through genres until you find a release that is similar to your style and check out other releases on that label.

it's one thing as we;; that sets apart PvD from us, he knows (or his producer knows) which instruments create a peak at (for example) 400-700 Hz.. then he knows how to combine it with the regular bass/synth spectrum to fill it up. then adds a friggin BRICKWALL compression to the entire track. (omg producerhumor)
