I don't think it will be politically correct for Bush to attack Iran at this point of time. The war in Iraq is becoming very unpopular with the American public and the Congress. Bush hardly has any support for his new troops surge plan. I read today, that he has been warned by the house not to conduct cross-border raids in Iraq because he does not have house approval to engage in hostilities outside of Iraq.
All that should matter to Bush now, is the presidential elections of 2008. He has to improve the situation in Iraq by then, otherwise the republicans will pay a heavy price in the elections. I am pretty sure, the situation in Iraq has revealed how much of a problem insurgency is. He simply cannot stop the militia from killing more American soldiers through covert operations. He can expect a whole lot more resistance if ground troops enter into Iran. It would be a very nasty and dangerous gamble and he'd probably have no support back home. The house may even move to impeach him and it would be a political disaster for the republicans.
I'm sure his fingers are itching to to press the war button on Iran. But his advisers at least, must have a clear head to realize how big this gamble will be.
