(no trolls please)

So now that Leopard has been out for about a week, what do you Mac guys think? Have you made the upgrade yet? What are your favorite features or new annoyances?

I'll post back with my thoughts soon. Just wanted to get the conversation started. (we need more good tech threads in this forum!) :P

Yeah, I just installed it last night. Overall some good improvements like spaces. Time Machine is awesome for backups too. I have noticed that the UI runs a little more sluggish than Tiger though (esp. the dock), and I'm on a maxed out new MBP. I'm thinking there will be updates to address it though. The transparent menu bar sucks too. Everything else is a-okay in my book.

mine is kind of slower now after the install,
in terms of loading, and just opening programs in general.

i'm running a mac book with 1 gb of memory.
it's not even a year old.

each time i run youtube the fecking fan comes on really strong,
but it also did that before i updated.
i was kinda hopping the update would take care of that.

Funny to hear it runs slower. I've read a lot of people saying it was running a bit faster for them.

Won't be upgrading anytime soon. Just don't see the point yet to upgrade.
Tiger fits my needs at this time. Only significant feature I'd love would be Spaces.
The rest is so-so. Don't think I would use Time Machine.

I loath that dock and menubar. Absolutely love the way the dock in Tiger looks.
But there are some haxies to get it to look less crappy in Leopard.

So, how did you guys update? Clean Install, Archive and Install or Upgrade?
Ran into any problems while doing any of these?

I did an upgrade bc I just don't have the time to do a clean install right now. It was painless though. It took about an hour and just a few clicks after inserting the cd.


A more pressing problem currently is that my screen has developed 2 small white dots about the size of a fingerprint on it. I did some research and apparently it was present in the powerbook G4s and rears its head on the MBP's sometimes. After the semester is over I'm gonna have to send it to apple. Anyone else have this problem?

Were all your files/folders/settings/apps the same in Leopard or did some things go bye-bye?

Haven't had the problem you encountered. Dunno if it only present on earlier Macs and now the MBP.
I have a MacBook myself and all is still good.
When did this happen? Maybe walk into an Apple Store and ask them what's wrong. They might enlighten you more.

Yeah, from what I can tell, Time Machine works flawless. Exact copies. So easy to use.

The screen spot issue is more prevalent than I thought. Do a search for "macbook pro white spot"...crazy. After finals I'm gonna send it in.

I installed it the very day it came out and ive never even thought about going back. Tiger was good but Leopard is really a step up. Just the fact that the finder wont beachball for minutes just because you unplug a USB-drive without ejecting it first is worth an install for me because im always plugging in things.

Spaces i dont really use because it wasnt what i expected. I was hoping for more of a separate desktop feeling with true virtual desktops instead of a way of separating applications but not really uncluttering the Alt-Tab list.

Screen sharing rocks my world, easy to use and even if you loose connectivity it wont shut down, it just waits to regain connection again.


For me the OS is quicker and app launching is noticable faster and i did not do a clean install, i upgraded two machines and both work flawlessly.
