Stereotypes

I wanted to start a thread just to get a general feel for what people think are the general stereotypes of a t.o rave. I been partying for about 6 years now and i've begun to see a disturbing trend that seems to be creeping out of the rave scene. The main thing that sets a rave apart from a club party is the fact that everyone's there to have a good time, not judge one another. It bothers me that i hear people complaining about the fact that there might be alot of asian people, of jacked guys with they're shirts off. I can understand if it's to the point where you can't dance but i heard these complaints about sasha and digweed(at kool hause, and yes i attended), complaints that i found to be completly off-base. There were times when i had people bumping into be but honestly it wasn't nearly as bad as i've seen a party. everytime someone would bump into be i'd simply smile. that's all. not get mad, not complain and certainly not get taken out of my "trance" and i was curious as to what and why people seem to have problems with these types of things at a party. this isn't meant as a diss to anybody or a flame in any way, i was just honestly wondering what u guys thought about it.
thx.
peace

Hey juice_368, I totally agree with you man. I've noticed that people here complain just about everything and most times I feel they are way off base. You are right that a rave is different from a club party in the sense that everyone is there just to have a good time. It doesn't matter if you're white, black, asian, gay, lesbian, whatever. People are there just to have a great time and not judge one another. I remember the people here at this forum laughing at some gay bikers that were at the Sasha and Digweed kool haus event. It was pretty sad. Gimme a break.

I understand when the Guv gets really crowded and there's not even enough room to breathe, we've all experienced it. And most times when I'm dancing and people bump into me, I noticed that people smile and appologize first even though it was my fault. There's no reason to get all upset and shit, it's ridiculous.

I made the comment before that I think a lot of the people who do a lot of the complaining here bring a very bad vibe to the party scene and I still stand by it. People just here just complain about everything...
WAAH WAAH WAAH, that gino gave me a dirty look, that asian guy is so cracked out, I'm never coming back to the Guv...etc etc. I mean seriously, they just whine like little babies and worry way too much about other people. And it's always the same thing week after week, it's pathetic.

You go into the Montreal and other forums and read the party reviews and most times people just have a great time. You come back to the Toronto forum and ask how Ferry Corsten was last night...and the bitching never ends.

I could care less if I get flamed for this, I'm just speaking the truth. I'm glad that a lot of the people that bring a negative vibe to the partys account for a very small minority of the party people in Toronto but you wouldn't know that just by coming here and reading the Toronto forum. I mean when I went to Sasha, everyone around me was having a great time and when I came back to read the reviews of what TA's had to say about the event, it was like....."oh man, did you see those gay bikers LOL? ", or " I didn't like the crowd, etc..etc...." whatever!

Maybe the problem here is that people are getting tired of the same old thing, Guv namely. When you become saturated with something the little insignificant things start to bother you, like the cracked out asians and muscleheads with their shirts off...

Maybe Toronto needs a new super-kool venue, what do you think?

People tend to get bored too much.
I love the fact that Guv is pact, it has a certain aspect of extreme lively-hood, even though its a little squish.

juice and trancewave....THANK YOU

Everyone knows it before they even go to those events, Corsten, Van Buuren any known Dj at the Guv will generate masses. U know it before u go. If u dont like it simply dont go, forget Van Buuren, go to Area 51, guaranteed u have plenty of room to dance that night...no shirtless buys, no cracked out asians.
If u decide u want to see the talent ENJOY it, make the best out of it......
Dont Whine....

My opinion......

What's wrong with critisizing something?
If I go to see a DJ, but the atmosphere sucks, then it sucks! Vibe is just as important as the music. The problem is that Toronto "rave" scene is monopolized by Guvernment. We can't do anything about it ! But what's wrong with complaining about it ?

In regards to Guv always being crowded... in a way, thats one of the things I like about it. I cant dance for shit, so when Guv is packed, I have a better excuse for why I look stoopid.

No matter where I go though... Vibe is definetly more important. You can get a good Vibe whether your cramped like a sardine, or spread out with half the dancefloor to yourself. Like at Guv with AvB a couple weeks ago. I read the reviews, and ppl were talking about Asians, Ginos, and shirtless ppl... I dont even remember seeing them cause I was too busy enjoying the party.

vibes

I'm glad to see that i'm not alone in my views. The post about the montreal forum could not reflect my thought pattern any more clearly than i could've put it myself. In trying to avoid a flame war i avoided stating that i was from montreal, a place where the rave scene is completely diffrent from that of t.o. It was only after my first trip to guv when i noticed to what extent. I'm not gonna get into it now but if you get a chance go to montreal, hell if you get a chance go to ibiza or greece or anywhere you can in the world. What was said about the "vibe" of a party is true to some extent. To me, the vibe of a party is what can make it or break it. How that vibe is obtained however is rather open to discussion. There've been parties i've been to where i've gotten the best vibe in the world while other people thought it sucked. If you wanna have a good time you will...bottom line. If you go to a party and look for things that are wrong with it you'll kill your night. If you take those things that are wrong with the party and look at them in a positive way you'll wish you didn't have to leave at some point. Guess then main reason I haven't become bored with partying is because i make it a point to leave every party having experienced something new(and no i don't mean pharmaceutically ). just my 2 cents.
peace.

I agree juice368. It's cool to talk about things that can be improved, and take some action if necessary (whatever happened to the petition for the guv that went around after the corsten party?) But often all the bitching detracts from the great time I had at an event when all people talk about is..."wah wah...some gino looked at me..some asian was in my way...." Other forums aren't as bad as this one, you're right trancewave.

..But I guess it's true that the scene is monopolized by the guv..oh well..could be a hell of a lot worse!

Peace
