Sasha as a DJ.

Someone tell me why I should think he's still a good DJ.

Seriously. Go. Now.

Spooky too please. Any and all reasons will be met with an open mind - they both just bored the piss out of me this weekend.

Don't believe the hype folks.

Also, is this a drunk thread?

Maybe, folks. Maybe.

His tracklistings are inspirational, altough I'm not sure if that alone warrants him as one of the worlds best anymore. He's had a good year, anyhow.

They are not and that's the biggest problem I've been having with him recently. He sounds like he doesn't put much effort in djing overall.

I dunno, I thought that Bonnaroo set was blazing...although that may have been more on Digweed's part. (Maybe) I should keep quiet, since I haven't really been an authority on him as a DJ for some years now.

Meh, most of his sets bore me. I wasn't too big into the Bonnaroo set to be honest, but I liked his latest Essential Mix. Any more he seems to pick off of the beatport top tracks and just ablehax them.

I guess it's just sad to have seen someone who has put together some of my favorite sets (live and studio) of all time become the absolute antithesis of what I want to hear in a club.

I'm sure the set I heard this weekend would sound great when I'm at home or in the car, getting high or something - but in a club it was just laughably bad, and unfortunately of the 5 times I've seen him, each time it's gotten less and less interesting (with WMC 06 @ Glass being one major exception).

It's as if Sasha and Digweed have flipped spiritual places. In the late 90s, Sasha was the inspired, pioneering DJ and Digweed played runner-up. Now Digweed is at the forefront, while Sasha is struggling to maintain a coherent brand.

90s Sasha : 90s Digweed :: 00s Digweed : 00s Sasha

As far as I can tell, 2001 is when Diggers stepped out in front, starting with Los Angeles.

Yeah but Digweed's like forty billion years old and even his store bought lunch meat has to be carbon dated.

This post made sense.

i havent heard a sasha mix since 2005 or 2006.. and all the ones ive kept are from 98-99..even 96 at Simon's. Now theres just a select amount of DJs who overpower him.

I really liked his essential mix, but a few sets that popped up after that were a miss for me...

The thing is, Sasha is very experimental with music. He believes the people always want to hear something new, and people will get bored easily. At this point, I think he's just showcasing a different sound which might not appeal to everyone because they haven't moved forward with the music. A few months down the road, he'll be throwing down a whole new vibe, and seeing as how Emfire has gotten off to a good start, and he's got a few releases lined up, I'm sure it will be good.

Furthermore, people love to see him. He may not be jumping around in the booth, but he has a connection with the crowd which took him nearly 30 years to make. His knowledge of music has only improved, he knows what to play, and when to play it, and he's only expanding.

Keep in mind, this is a big of busy time for Sasha. He's got a kid on the way, the launch of Emfire, track hunting for Involver 2 (it will be released sometime around next summer), the production of his Maven, and touring.

My respect for him has only gone up.
