Im about to purchase more RAM for my PC. Im running an AMD Athlon 1.68 GHz with 224mb RAM currently. Would my motherboard be compatible for 2GB you think?
Also, is it plug and play? ie: once installed i should see a noticeable difference in performance straight away?
Cheers

224 MB, how the hell did you get such a weird amount of RAM?
Anyway, yes going to 1-2GB RAM will give a SIGNIFICANT boost in windows/programs etc.
But you'll need to buy the right memory and probably scrap whatever current memory you have installed. DDR memory should be installed in pairs to use the faster data transfer.
download CPU-Z and find out your motherboard and post it.

yeah. download cpu-z. your motherboard may not be able to hold that much and it'll also help you find out the particular type of ram, in pin configuration, bus speed and maximum amount supported. No point buying what won't work.

You should buy PC2700 DDR RAM.
2 x 1GB RAM if you want 2GB. 2 x 512MB if you want 1GB.
Remove the 256 memory stick that's already inside.

aye you'll get a good performance boost, but obviously the clock speed of your cpu won't get faster, since it's an old chip

it could possibly be cheaper to buy a new mobo + ram + processor you know
hell, 1 Gb sticks of 800 mhz ram are $26AU each! the 2700 stuff you need is like 10 times that price.
