Just noticed how the official name is "labor". Has it always been like that? Since when did an Aus political party adopt the American way of spelling, or am I mistaken? Is "labor" part of the English (her majesty's) dictionary?

from the ALP website:
quote:
During the early years of the ALP, the Party was referred to by various titles differing from colony to colony. It was at the 1908 Interstate (federal) Conference that the name 'Australian Labour Party' was adopted. In its shortened form the Party was frequently referred to as both 'Labor' and 'Labour', however the former spelling was adopted from 1912 onwards, due to the influence of the American labor movement.
ive always spelt it labor, but didn't know it was an Americanism.
another good reason not to vote for them I guess

theres more than one option. Not viable options, but options nevertheless.
Especially when the labor candidate is Nicole Cornes

meh, i was an idealist back in the day...but unfortunately the best way to hurt the liberal party is to vote for the ALP.
hurt labor in the senate if you want people. thats where you vote for all those alternative parties. and god knows the dems need your vote. but vote labor in the lower house for christ's sake

But theres absolutely no way in hell I'm ever going to vote for Nicole Cornes. I actually prefer someone who knows what she's doing and the policies of the party she's representing (no shit, she has no idea about any policies).
That and I hate poeple who use media contacts (The Advertiser who she used to work for, Channel 7 who her husband works for) to run their campaign under the claim its 'news'.
She's a laughing stock, and a couple of weeks ago I heard a national radio program laughing at her too so her notoriety is spreading
