Work in progress

Hi all,

New to this forum. Didn't know it existed until I was reading a few threads on the propellerheads forum. God their forum format is so rubbish compared to others I've been on...mp3unsigned, dancemusicproduction and this one.

Anyhow I have a new track which is practically finished (up to about 6 mins) which I'd love some feedback on.
http://www.mp3unsigned.com/showmp3....50475&aid=15771

Also completed another a couple of days ago.
http://www.mp3unsigned.com/showmp3.asp?mp3id=50120

All tracks are done with Reason. These 2 on Reason 4 which I bought and got stuck into. Thor is incredible!!

Hope I've gone about this post correctly. I've read some of the other responses to posting and you guys can be quite brutal when you don't like what you read

Look forward to chatting and reviewing some other music.

Hi,

To be honest there is nothing really to say about WIP.

Nothing bad, but nothing fenomenal. I could read my emails and work while listening to it.
Usually if I listening to music, it's either helping me to work faster or to remind me of something or I just stop the music if it's bad.
Now I couldn't feel anything about it. Maybe it's just my mood today, but I couldn't even remember when the player stopped.

Thanks for listening. Appreciate the feedback. The fact you didn't have anything bad to say about it I'll take as a compliment!!

I guess that means production is ok but hook or melody needs improvement or even changed completely? It's my fifth track ever and trying to get tips from people that are producing professional tunes is really difficult.

thanks for the listen.

Yeah, then you know what I mean. The melodic part is not strong/interesting enough.
I'm not a producer myself, so cannot give you proper feedback, but this feeling is like you go to a resaturant and order something that you normally like and it tastes like it always does.
Good, but nothing special.
If you try to cook it for yourself, you should play more with the spices and cooking methods and then you can create an exceptionally great dish.
Sorry for that, I'm better in cooking then music production.

Think the bassline is a touch too loud and the synth sound at start is too quiet.

The track elements sound in the right places but it is just missing something to really grab your attention.

Very old skool sounding like some old ibiza classicz and it kind of reminds me of watching the sunset at cafe del mar!

In the breakdown the percussion in the build up is a bit too weak and it loses aggression.

Decent effort though man!

HEY FELLOW REASON USER!!!!!

I do my work in Reason also. Haven't got into Thor yet.

WIP is very nice but it does lack a lead to tie it all together. The opening verse is great, really sets the mood. Try making a lead to roll over top of it to really pull people in. It has great potential. I really liked those pads too, really gives the song character.

Completed track. Nice punchy kick. Turn that bass down. Throw on the M-Class EQ and hit Low Cut as well as drop out a few of the lower frequencies so its not so overpowering. The left panned synth on the build is a little loud but I do like the nice roll and break before everything drops in again.

Both tracks have great percussive elements. I'm a fan of the Kick/snare/crash/2 styles of hats or shaker. Anything more and it starts reminding me of house music

Both tracks Ooze Trance. Keep doing what you're doing.

Cheers for the listen. Hopefully I will manage to spend some time on the weekend to take your thoughts on board.

I need to learn how to get better bass lines with Reason and I also never use compression. Need to know when to use that, particularly side chaining.

I think overall if I was wiring up things properly I could get whats there to sound more attractive but sadly that knowledge is beyond me!!

Since the addition of the combinator and m-class compressor in Reason 3 side haining is pretty simple. Ill try to go over it really fast.

Kick Combinator (Yes, I use a Combinator for EACH percussive element) - EQ - Maybe FX - MC Compress - Spider Audio Splitter (Run split Audio Out to the "FROM DEVICE" input on the COMBI)

Bass combinator - NNXT with some Bass Patch - EQ - FX - MC Compress

On the back of the MCC there is a SC IN

From the SAS in the KICK COMBI, take the second audio outs and run them to the MCC in the BASS COMBI to the SIDECHAIN IN. From there you can hit sidechain solo and tweak from there. This chains the compression of the bass to the kick.

Feel free to tack on anything I missed or may have said in error.

listened to "Work in Progress" it reminds me of old 99 trance which is nostalgic yet good in my book. great job on the breakbeat in the breakdown. First the arp that comes in at first def needs delay or a more interesting arppegiator pattern. The lead that comes in at the breakdwon def needs more to it. try adding the delay effect to it, a more complex apreggiator pattern, and/(or!) another osciallator if ur synth can handle it to spicen things up! maybe turn it up an octave as well? its just way to simple for me to groove to. also ur snare roll tho nostalgic should have some effects on it, reverb/delay to beef it up. And/or u can use a high pass filter and swell it down a la armand van helden to give that snare roll more character. bass is way to quiet i can hardly hear it. u should put a good arpeggiator pattern on the as well as a more sawtooth/higher filter cutoff sound to it to give it edge, its pretty simple as it is. hope this helps man and good luck! nice chord progression and song structure!
