You double posted this to the right forum... Well, I guess I'll just tag along, again.

As far as the synth, I would personally go for the TI out of the three, while the Korg in my second choice. I could be wrong about the Andromeda, but I have heard plenty of reviews that say that it's just not enough bang for the enormous price that it demands.

I would shop around and read reviews at places such as http://reviews.harmony-central.com/ .

Otherwise... I would personally invest in a super-powerful computer instead of those synths if I was given a choise. I'm happy with my tools but one can always use more CPU... IMO...

Do NOT get the Virus TI. It's a great synth, it sounds awesome. But there's just too many problems that IMO can not be fixed in a software update without reducing the polyphony drastically. You will not get 80 voices of polyphony like they claim (More like 24-32 voices). If you push it too hard it starts to emit clicking and crackling sounds. Basically the DSPs are too weak for the amount of features they crammed into it. Get a Virus C or B.

I'm a strong believer that if you can't answer such questions for yourself, then you shouldn't buy any of them.

Go forth and try them yourself!

For trance, for a first synth, out of those three I'd go with the Virus, it's sound is geared towards trance the most. I have a Virus KC, it has a huge sound and never had a single issue. I'll wait and see what the TI 2 (or whatever Access make next) shapes up to be, but I have heard of people having software issues with the TI. To my ears, the sound isn't earth-shatteringly different from the C, so I'm happy to wait for their next absolutely rock-solid synth.

At the right time and price I'll pick up an Andromeda, since I'm well stocked for most other synths. But it doesn't sound like a bread-and-butter, first synth. And the Radias...if you can get it very cheap, then yes, Korgs have a certain solid sound to them...I dunno, I've heard the Radias criticised for that "band in a box" functionality, with all it's arpeggiation and drum tracks and everything happening at the touch of a button. If you can turn all of that off and it has good solid sounds, then I'd say yeah, grab one cheap.

Other solid first synths with a wide range of textures are the Nord Lead 3 (or Rack 3, if you don't require a keyboard and want to save some money) and Waldorf Q.

But I'd say, you could pick up a Virus C fairly cheap from somewhere and be well on the way, in terms of awesome hardware sounds.

It really depends on the sound you want.. Listen to samples of all synths, and get an idea of how they sound. The radias and the ti will sound digital, no question - and the andromeda is quite different. I suggest you read up on all the synths you'd be evaluating, and form your own opinion. I did, and ended up with the Andromeda - after cancelling my order for the ti. My only worries were if the synth would be stable, and not break up on me - or loose voices etc. I just simply love the sound of it, and the hands on control it gives me is brilliant. It just has "that" certain extra that I didn't hear in the ti.

oh, btw I've had it for two months now, and no problems so far. yay!

actually i checked the prices on ebay and i found some Virus Cs at 1100 USD so in this case i might give out more 500 - 600 USD and get the Ti

Part of the reason why Virus C went up in price is because many have been disenchanted with Ti.... I'm one of those. I upgraded my OS, but I still have major problems with mine. It gets stuck like a mofo all the time... and multis??? don't even get me started!

I recently wasted over 1.5 hours on a KILLER multipatch. It was nothing short of the best work I ever done. To ensure it wasn't overwritten, lost or whatnot - I saved it in 3 patch locations!!!!! EACH AND EVERY SINGLE ONE HAD THE SAME ISSUE - patch didn't save correctly, patch sounded nothing like how I saved it. I was so pissed of I was ready take a fucking hamer to the synth!

I've been on a look out for virus C since. I'll be dumping BOTH of my TI's. Piece of shit, worst Access ever. Talk about a rushed, overhyped, incomplete, unreliable, half-assed product
