I am at home right now and I want to run a Cisco VPN client to connect to my school network. I am running Windows XP Service Pack 2. There are some known compatibility issues between the XP SP2 and VPN client. They also have fixes, but so far I am unable to make it work. I am thinking of downgrading to SP1.
Can I do this by simply running the SP1 installable from the MS website?
Will this create any issues that I am unaware of ?

from last i knew SP2 is not uninstallable. and i can attest to you that the cisco client works. i used it flawlessly for a long time.
also...dont remove service packs. there are updates that are dependent on service packs that will result in a broken windows install if you remove a service pack AFTER installing post sp2 updates.

reinstall the client. sounds like some GUID's got fucked with or something. it could just be a config file. i dont a whole lot about those sorts of errors.

also realize those are all compounding errors. for whatever reason i never understood the cisco client doesnt halt after certain errors. i dunno why but it just doesnt.

Get a windows disc with SP 1 or no service packs.
Do a windows repair
any programs that require sp2 should stop working (also note sp1 introduces support for HDD over 128gb...) however your windows install probably won't be too broken.
BTW any else think that windows media player 11 requiring sp2 is a joke?!
FFS is a fvcking media player. WTF did sp2 bring that means wmp 10 works and 11 doesn't?
