great movie.
i wrote this on another forum: (sorry its out of contex)

i really enjoyed the movie
i have to echo others who said the film is meant to be operatic. really, i saw the film as a pop culture celebration of the power of the fine art of ballet. It is a kind of hybrid film that I don't think should be compared to hitchcock. To me it's a primer to ballet and opera, somewhere in between film and that. Someone in this thread said that this movie is a great introduction to ballet for people who otherwise might not have the stomach for it - totally agreed.
The film succeeds in its communication of motion, and the score is fantastic, and I think it does what it set out to do with flying colors - ie, give a first person perspective of swan lake which successfully hybridizes both the art and spectacle of ballet with the art and spectacle of film.
bravo!
and totally agreed about natalie portman being the perfect 'debutante' for this role. |
